I believe Reaper Man was the first death book I read - that, or Mort, or possibly both close together. I loved them to bits. And the Witches books are great - I didn't enjoy them so much when I was younger but really get into them now.
Great book, impeccably researched (as are all of Simmons books that I've read), but I did feel it was let down by the climax of the horror element. Review of it here for anyone interested.
I definitely agree that the actual depiction of horrors of life on board such a ship, stranded and...
I should note that I'm actually listening to Stephen King's The Stand on download from audible. I normally prefer reading, but find audio books great for that part of my commute that involves moving from train to train across platform concourse, and for the walk to and from the station to my office.
Read The Shining. It's a masterpiece. Salem's Lot is very good too. For a class A collection of his shorts, try Night Shift which contains the short story Night Surf as mentioned earlier and loosely connected to The Stand.
The Innkeepers - 7.5/10

Hi Cosimah2o. Thanks for all the cool music linkage of late. Sorry I've been so slack, but been v. busy. I've been listening to lots of Burial and The Future Sound of London on the way to work everyday. I just love it all. Like that Commix remix. So dreamy, and fires the imagination.

Gardens of the Moon by Steven Eriksen was very enjoyable, dense and detailed world with a grim but magical feel to it. That might appeal to you.
I found Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself trilogy highly enjoyable also, and those books are among the best fantasy I'd read in years.
I really enjoyed the Skalpel track. I found it to have a DJ Shadow edge to it, and wouldn't think it out of place on his Endtroducing album. The Tobin piece is very un-Tobin though, non. Nice, but not his usual style?
Photek = Nice old school jungle.
