Books everybody has read except you

I've also never read the Harry Potter series or Lord of the Rings. And as Libra mentioned, I also don't like "The Time Traveler's Wife". It's in my bookshelf, but I could never finish it.

I have to admit that the German team played really bad. The Spanish deserved it. Why are you interested in the EM? Thought it wouldn't be interesting for Americans because it's only Europeans ;) By the way, great picture ;)

    Does spelling still count?

I think that spelling is important, especially in a book and literature forum. That's why I'm trying to make as little mistakes as possible, though I'm no native speaker. My only problem is that I really don't get the punctuation. It is so weird. In German we use so much commas and you hardly...

Germany is a great team, but they only showed it in the match against Portugal. Unfortunately they played really bad against Turkey (though, of course, I was for Germany). You can tell me you're for Spain ;) As I am no real soccer fan it doesn't matter to me too much. Where are you from?

Movies you watched more than once?

I hope I will get them all together... I know there are some films I should be ashamed of ;) - Titanic (I tink I've seen that film hundreds of times when I was a teenager...) - Dirty Dancing - My Girl - Garden State - About A Boy - 10 Things I hate about You - Notting Hill - The Holiday -...

Thoughts on translations or the ramblings of a madman

Well... I'm in the start-up period. I've been doing my training since February 2008, so I'm really at the beginning. Here in Germany you can study translator at universities or private schools. I am studying it at a private school. It's really fun but also hard to learn all the vocabulary. And...

    Modern Romance books

Currently I'm reading a book with romantic short stories by Hanif Kureishi. Unfortunately I just know the German title, "Dunkel wie der Tag". I'm not sure but I think it could be that book: Amazon.com: Midnight All Day: Hanif Kureishi: Books

Thoughts on translations or the ramblings of a madman

Good points, beer good. I prefer reading a book in the original language, but that only works in English and French (sometimes), and of course in German. As I'm doing a training as translator in English I try to translate as literally as possible, but in some cases this is not possible. In...

Judging a book by its Cover

You can be glad that you're reading mainly the originals. Maybe that works if you don't have to buy translated books. If you look at some titles and substitles and how they are translated you shouldn't judge a book by its cover when buying. That's also a reason why I prefer buying a book in...

    Childhood books

We read lots of German classics in school, e.g. by Schiller, Goethe, Lessing,... . I hated "Die Leiden des jungen Werther" by J.W. von Goethe (The sorrows of the young Werther). My favorite books in school were "Effi Briest" by Fontane and "Homo Faber" by Max Frisch. In my freetime I loved the...

    best book title ever!

I like Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. This title is inspired by a song by the Beatles and imo it really fits to the story of the book.
