The Railway Man -Eric Lomax
Synopsis
A naive young man, a railway enthusiast and radio buff, was caught up in the fall of the British Empire at Singapore in 1942. He was put to work on the 'Railway of Death' - the Japanese line from Thailand to...
I try to read wherever and whenever i can, even if it's for a few minutes.
I read in the car waiting to pick people up, waiting rooms, bus stops, at work, even watching TV in the adverts.
Ideally though, i like to have a cold beer or glass of wine, be in a different room to the rest of the...
Hi all,
Back for the third time, hopefully for longer, i've been real busy with private stuff for the last year but i have managed to keep reading which is always important to me.
I've glanced through some of the threads, there are a lot of new users and i'm glad to say still some familiar...
When the Lion Feeds - still one of my favourite books ever, classic story telling, gives you a feel for the country (South Africa).
I've read it 4 times, it's one of the first books that got me into reading and i've never looked back since.
I love reading at night, but i fall asleep too quickly.
The book falling on the floor usually startles me awake again and i can usually read another chapter or two before it happens again and i give up.
Afternoons in the garden is my best time.
Not from a book but anybody who has seen the movie 'Donnie Darko' will remember the scene where a english teacher stated that the most beautiful phrase in the english language was 'Cellar Door'
A famous linguist once said that out of all the combinations of words in the English language, of...
Most of the time i have to do my reading with lots going on, TV/music on, Kids rowing. I can block most things out especially if the book is good. If i'm struggling a bit with the book things distract me easier.
My local library prices sale books so cheap, i end up buying books i wouldn't normally buy. I've found some real gems for next to nothing even if they are a little tatty.
To get me back into reading SK looks like it's going have to be the 'Dark Tower' series, lets hope i'm not dissapointed.
I'll put the 'Gunslinger' on my TBR list
Didn't purchase had theses bought for me

Haven't read any Stephen King novels for a while now, the last one was 'The Green Mile' which i enjoyed. I was thinking of trying one of his books again but not sure which one to choose.
I've read most of his early stuff but i haven't picked up one of his books now for a few years, i know...
Like you Tamsine i was recommended this book, although i finished it i also struggled, parts of it held my interest but the majority of the book didn't.
I wouldn't say i hated it but it was a tough read.
