I think they chose well. I'm reading it for the first time also, and it's really good. I find the learning of magic makes a good extended metaphor for learning knowledge in real life. Great for students. Interestingly, they read Demian last semester, and hated it, but I can see a connection with...
I agree.
And, I still think that unless it says so in the book, the most we can do is speculate. Even if Rowling says something, she has to publish a new book to confirm it in my opinion. Text is final.
What about the sacredness of text? Can authors create things outside of the books they've written without writing new books? I mean, without direct textual evidence in the previous seven books (none of which I've read, so feel free to discard my opinions :o ) can he really be gay just because...
I think this may be the key. I should find faithful editions of the plays on video and go with that. I find once I open the plays in book form I get bogged down with trying to visualize and keep track of stage directions.
Yeah, I like Eminem. Very catchy at times. And, downright funny at others. Not high culture, but he was never trying. I love it when he shit-talks people in his lyrics.
I want to read more Shakespeare. I've read maybe seven or eight of his plays, and all for school throughout the years. I can't seem to pick him up for pleasure reading. How can I get inspired to read and enjoy his plays?

The nature is going well. I'm lucky that my mentor is Metis (Canadian, half French - half Indian) and he has given me a direction in life. I'm working on a memoir of my experiences with him / biography of him / historical research work about an Indian god. It keeps me connected to nature despite...
I'm going to have to get this and read it as soon as possible. It's been floating around in my mental TBR list, but always just staying off radar. In general your opinions are very balanced, and this brief review convinced me.
I totally agree about that magical quality books for children have. If you are into children's books, you will definitely enjoy the three I recommended. Plus those two authors have tons of other books with nature type themes. I'm going to have to try Into the Forest, because it is sure to be...
Just read this now, and best of luck on everything.
Surgery is scary. I always thought of modern medicine as a quick painless fix, but after reading Patrimony by Philip Roth where he describes his father's brain tumor and the possible surgeries; and having four wisdom teeth extracted under...
Yup, that's the guy. Fled Korea almost immediately after the deswirled photos went on international news.
He was working at one of the top foreign language high schools, near Seoul. I have some middle school students who were planning to go there for high school. They decided against it...
