Hi there!
Has anyone read Jean Hegland´s "Into the Forest"? If not I suggest you go ahead and order that book at once! It´s one of my favourite novels ever. "Into the Forest" is about two teenage sisters who live in a huge redwood forest in Northern California. Then modern civilization collapses, there is no electricity, etc. They loose their parents. The sisters have to adapt to the situation and learn to live from what they find in the forest and their garden.
The novel is so beautifully written and has this magic green spark to it. Original, engaging and despite the tragedies it is also good natured and humouros. The redwood trees are so vividly described that although I´ve never seen one in reality, I could almost feel the musty smell of them and feel their swampy reddish brown bark.
I´ve been searching for other novels that take place in the nature and are as enchanting and unforgettable as "Into the Forest". But I haven´t found anything like it. So if anyone has any suggestions, please tell me.
