    POLL: Types of Readers

Other. I'm into non-fiction books like self-help, stock market and bios of stock market players. I spend as much time reading newspapers as books. I don't borrow or lend books, there are too few people who are interested in the same subject matter as me. I re-read many of my books, I don't make...

Dean King: Skeletons on the Zahara

Not an outdoorsy kind of guy, but I did enjoy reding the encyclopedia entries for Shackeleton and Amundsen when I was a kid.

News Corp in talks with Microsoft

regarding having it's content removed from Google searches. They don't want freeloaders reading their content. Murdoch has mentioned before that he wants to start charging for most of his news content on the web. This article was in today's print edition of the WSJ. I typed the first few...

    Kindle for the PC

Reading at a computer is a different experience than reading printed material. I canceled my newspaper subscription once and started reading stock market news on my computer. I had less retention while reading that way. I imagine it would be worse if I tried reading a book while sitting at my...

    Books you didn't finish

I started Monte Cristo three times, but it was so boring I could not even get 1/4 of the way through it. I've tried to read Innovation and Entrepeneurship by Peter Drucker a couple of times, but probably never even made it half way through, it was as dry as dust.

Newspapers to experiment in going without the AP

I don't understand how this amounts to savings at all. Are the newspapers going to hire a reporter to cover the White House, another to cover Europe, another to cover Africa, another to cover Asia, another to cover etc.? It seems to me that using the AP reporters who already cover this are...

    Are you a prolific writer?

I've never completed a damb thing, so I definitely not a prolific writer. I have finally started writing a space opera that's been in my head for many years, but the market for space operas in very limited so my chances for seeing it on display at Barnes & Noble are very slim. I will submit it...

    Newspaper circulation still declining

I read my neighborhood weekly paper when I'm at the laundrymat. It's free, there is always a stack of them at the liquor store next door. I notice that it has always kept the same page count, and I haven't noticed any decline in the number of ads in it. There are plenty of full page and half...

What are the best psychology/self-help books?

I've got a lot of self-improvement books, some better than others, but there's value in almost all of them. Tony Robbins has evolved over the years. His older books/tapes were very helpful to me, but his newer ones seem to mostly plug his seminars. I have both Personal Power and Personal Power...

Out of print books - it's a TRAGEDY!

A few years ago I was searching for "The Anatomy of Success" by Nicolas Darvas. It was out of print but I found a few copies for sale at around $200 each, but that was out of my price range. Just for kicks, I searched for it again and found it back in print from BN Publishing in paperback for...

Are you happy with this forum?

I found this forum by searching the vbulletin index while searching for book forums. Even though I noticed that it did not have a lot of activity, I joined anyway, attracted to the newspapers/magazines section. Through a post on this forum I did find a much more active site geared more towards...
