Teach Yourself Stalin's Russia. Interesting stuff.
Rasputin. A biography of his life. The guy was a nutter! they just couldn't kill him. he cared not for poison, gun shot wounds, bludgeoning or castration! He was a trooper!
aww man it looks like they had another go at london today. it's on the news now. There's been an 'incident' at Warren Street stn smoke and stuff, someone thinks they may have heard an explosion and Sheperd's Bush stn has been closed. Something at Oval too. Explosion on the number 26 bus. all the...
i chose Norwegian for a number of reasons 1) i like colder weather and would love to visit the place (i've seen pictures of the scenery) 2)I'm interested in scandinavian folklore and history 3) I want to see Ibsen's work in it's original language and 4) girlfriend (ex-girlfriend now :( ) spoke...
oops i missed this bit when i signed up initally.
I'm a 19yr old guy from North London studying for my A levels. I like to do a lot of reading and have started writing a collection of short stories. I haven't been able to do much of either recently though coz of the exam period. But that's all...
Uniforms are definately a good idea. i had to wear one right up until i finished secondary school and have only managed to get out of wearing uniform now because i'm in a college. In my opinion, uniforms give conformity, cut down on truancy (it's a lot harder to bunk school if u're wearing a...
What do a chav and a slinky have in common?
Both are of little practical use to any one, but nevertheless it's still fun to watch them fall down the stairs.
I've seen audio books about but never actualy heard one. do they actually get a guy just to read the book onto a tape. that seems unlikely to me as i can't even read the shortest of books in 4 hours so they must omit details from the books. i guess this would be ok if it was like a word here and...
Selected Stories by Alice Munro
I had to buy this book for my AS level english. i think forced myself to read the first 2 stories then read none (and didn't turn up to those lessons) until May where i managed to force myself to read another one. Apparently she's the best short story writer of...
I'm not looking for any book in particular i'm just trying to find books which have a similar sort of theme - alternate reality type books. I don't know what the correct term would be for this genre. Examples of ones i've read are 1984, Brave New World, A Clockwork Orange and Fatherland. If...
*drool* The Waterstone's in Picadilly is AMAZING. i could actually spend an entire day in there and not get bored. It has 6 floors, is open until ten has a café also. I love that place. Plus the trip to Central London makes for a nice day out even if it is spent in the bookshop. It's the first...
I've just started Brave New World by Auldous Huxley. It's really good but there's something nagging me at the back of my mind. Towards the end of chapter 1 the DHC mentions the foetuses still having gills and later goes on about their tails. Are they crossbreeding fish with humans or is there...
Just finishedFatherland by Robert Harris. A very good read, his portrayl of Nazi Germany, an alternate future and how the Nazi state may have expanded and operated is both interesting and thought provoking especially for anyone interested in 20th century history.
