Re-reading ADVENTURES IN MEXICO AND THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS 1846-1847 by George Ruxton.
Ruxton was a young Englishman and former soldier who did more living in 27 years than most of us do in our whole lives.
He fought in Spain at the age of eighteen...then served in the English Army....traveled to...
Little plastic army men....I played with them all over the house and yard...
Never knew my mom knew certain cuss words till she stepped on some barefoot.

Jules Roy wrote a outstanding account of that battle as well.

Well, Kelstan....I grew up in Cincinnati and spent many a summer and fall in Kentucky.....with family.
So..."y'all"...just seems right. Could have been worse...I 've been known to say "All y'all....as in all y'all come over here....lol....

Life in the far west, by George Ruxton.
This is the graddaddy of all mountainman novels. Ruxton wrote all the standards before they were the standard. The main character runs off from home as a kid....falls in with an expericenced fur trapper..horses get stolen....saves the Indian...
The last valley by Martin Windrow is a excellent account of the battle of Dien Bien Phu.
Honor Bound by Stuart Rochester & Fredrick Kiley is a tough...as in I can't believe these guys made it...read about POW'S in Southeast Asia from 1961-1973.
