Actually... Actually, not really. All soldiers on 12+ month deployments get block leave (which translates to about 1mo back home during the deployment if you include the transit time there and back).

Atlas Shrugged, Part 1 Atlas Shrugged, Part 1. A good movie that is fairly true to the novel that it is based upon. Looking forward to seeing parts 2 + 3. :stars4:

    Logical Help!

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but the "Argumentation" course from The Great Courses is on a closely related subject. I just finished this course and it was excellent. There courses are fairly cheap (usually less than $50 bucks per course, you just have to ask for the current...

    The Cannabinoid Hypothesis

Hi everybody (Hi Dr. Nick). I've been offline for a while due to moving from the right to the left coast. Below is a writing sample from the psychological thriller that I just published on KDP select (Amazon -- free to borrow for Kindle Prime members). I originally wrote this in medical school...

    Nirvana on the Guitar

I recently got into playing Nirvana's stuff on the guitar and I'm amazed by how simple, yet how brillant, most of their guitar riffs are. I also was struck by the fact that most of the lyrics don't really make a lot of sense (some of the songs, anyhow) and I did some reading on the net about it...

    Current Non-Fiction reads

The Prince Machiavelli's The Prince. As much as this book gets demonized, I found it to actually be pretty reasonable advice for the most part. I listened to it on audiobook during my work commutes last week and I highly recommend it.

Critter with legs Looks like one of those ball-things from the movie Critters except bigger and with a body. That movie scared the heck out of me when I was 7 or 8.

    Hi, from KC!

Welcome! I also lived in KC for a year. I was a kid, but I remember being able to get tickets really cheap to Royals' games, which were a lot of fun (Kaufman Stadium, if my memory serves me). Great steaks too. Welcome!

As much as I hate to say it... As much as I hate to say it, at least one actor has made a string of big-ticket flicks that I've enjoyed over the past 5yrs -- Leonardo DiCaprio. In addition to having a most excellent first name , Shutter Island andJ. Edgar are both great films with superb...

    April 2012: Chuck Palahniuk: Damned

No thanks First of all, let me say that Fight Club was an incredibly creative work and the author deserves all the kudos in the world for its originality. With that said, I doubt that I'll ever read another work by this author and here's why. I forget the title of the book, but one of his older...

Coma, huh? I've actually never heard of Coma, and I'm the biggest Crichton fan ever (also the biggest Crichton wannabe ever!). I'll definitely have to check it out. I just picked up J. Edgar for my weekly Johnny Walker and a movie night. Will let everyone know how it is tomorrow.
