    R.K. Narayan: The Guide

    Sure, I would.

    Stephen King: Under the Dome

I recently read Under the Dome, and to say I liked it would be an under statement. This book in a way defines what a page turner is. I just could not put the book down (Though, at almost 900 pages, it is quite heavy;)) Right from the beginning, I was mesmerized with the unusual plot, and...

    Overrated Books

I did read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the Girl who kicked the Hornet's Nest and though I liked the first book in parts, the plot of missing girl kept me on heels. But, I simply could not endure the violence of Hornet's Nest. I simply do not understand why the books were...

    R.K. Narayan: The Guide

I definitely will see the movie, especially as I really liked the book. Though, I hope the end is somewhat different, our directors do take good liberties :)

1984 : Science Fiction or Political Horror?

Well, both books do seem somewhat similar to 1984, it is a pity I never heard of them before.

    Overrated Books

I simply loved Wuthering Heights. Enjoyed its little mysteries and an altogether different treatment of a love triangle. I personally found Paulo Coelho and Steig Larsson a bit too over rated.

1984 : Science Fiction or Political Horror?

No, I have not read any of the two books you mentioned. Can you tell me the name of author and if possible, a little bit of the story/plot?:)

Where are you? (in the book you are reading) - please read 1st post

I agree Canuck, it is really a pity if you like a certain line, and have no idea about the book or writer. It seems as if the climax is missing from a mystery:innocent: By the way, I have now entered Ball with Kitty and Anna, and I am suspecting a major duel is about to take place between them...

1984 : Science Fiction or Political Horror?

I have just finished reading 1984 by George Orwell. The book was written in 1949, predicting the future 35 years later, i.e. in 1984. Orwell has created a negative utopia in his novel, where the Party keeps tab on people 24X7, strictly controls the media and society and nobody is allowed to...

    R.K. Narayan: The Guide

I am yet to see the movie Guide, so can't really comment on how much justice it did to the actual work. Though, I am a fan of Waheeda Rehman and particularly enjoy her song "Aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai." And, as far as R.K. Narayan's work is concerned, you are quite right about his being...

What do you use as a bookmark?

I usually remember where I left reading, so earlier never used a book mark. But, recently, I have purchased some books online and got real bookmarks free with every book, with some funny statement written on them. So, I am quite tempted to use these. One thing I really detest is the dog-eared...

    Recently Finished

I recently finished 1984 by George Orwell. An intense novel written in 1949, imagining the social and political condition in future i.e. almost 35 years hence 1984.

    R.K. Narayan: The Guide

I am a die hard fan of R K Narayan. Be it his delightfully funny Swami and Friends, philosophical English Teacher or slightly off track Bachelor of Arts. There is hardly any of his novel which struck me as unimpressive. So, the moment I began reading 'The Guide', I knew that I am going to love...

In the private quarters of O'Brien, on the verge of knowing whether secret brotherhood really exists, in 1984 by George Orwell.

    The Smell Of Books

Ooh, Standing ovation for these hardworking scientists and researchers who can spend years trying to unravel the reason behind a natural preference. A mere mortal like me would never be able to give much thoughts to these chemicals and their reactions. Nevertheless, the vanillin story would...

1001 books you must read before you die.

Oh My God and I thought I was a regular reader:innocent: I could only find the following books that I have read so far and diligently remember. 65. Small Remedies – Shashi Deshpande 113. The Moor’s Last Sigh – Salman Rushdie 379. The Godfather – Mario Puzo 857. War and Peace – Leo...

    Book recommendation...funny, philosophical, intellectual

Morales, I have not read the books you mentioned, so I don't know whether the books I am about to suggest would appeal you in the same way or not. I read Paulo Coelho's Alchemist and found it funnily philosophical, especially the end. You can also give a shot to Nine Lives by William Dalrymple...

I recently finished reading Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding. Despite lavish praises laid on this novel, I found it just okay.

    To Be Read List

Yes, till now, I mainly concentrated on contemporary Indian writers, considering classics to be heavy read, but a single sitting with Tolstoy made me rethink about classics.
