    Kurt Vonnegut

I'm a huge Vonnegut fan, although I've only finished one book (Slaughterhouse-Five). I'm a little over mid-way through Hocus Pocus, and I simply adore it. After Hocus Pocus, one of my co-worker's, an English major in college, suggested I pick up Cat's Cradle and Galapagos. After those two, does...

    Kurt Vonnegut: Slaughterhouse-Five

Slaughterhouse-Five was the first Vonnegut novel I read, and I completely fell in love with the book and author. Billy Pilgrim's quirk of being "unstuck from time" makes the storytelling rich and spontaneous. I also really enjoyed the fact that nobody in the book (Tralfamadorians or Billy)...

    Comic books vs. books

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the much-acclaimed Neil Gaiman comic series, The Sandman. First of all, that series is actually the equivalent of a rated "R" movie, with violence, very strong language, nudity, etc, it's primarily for adults/teenagers. Also, the series gives insight into...

    Steps for writing chapters

I wrote a thirteen-chapter fanfiction on Kingdom Hearts recently. My system went as folllows: -Decide what will happen. -Write the chapter itself. -Add/Delete/Edit events. -Check spelling/grammar/punctuation. -Decide the overall theme of the chapter, and name it. -(optional) Stick in a...

J.D. Salinger: The Catcher In The Rye

How could Holden die? He's telling the story in the past tense!

    I just finished reading...

I finished "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving a few days ago. It was a pretty good story. I liked the ending, even if it kinda flopped it was so depressing. Don't get me wrong, the ending wasn't sad nor was it disappointing but those are the only words coming to mind.

    Hello from Snowy Ohio!

A fellow Ohioan, eh? Greetings from rainy Southern Ohio! Ugh, first three inches of ice, now some obscure amount of rain. In any case, welcome!

    Platypus

Greetings and salutations, all. I was poking around Google, looking for a good book-discussion forum and popped in. Just finished "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving and am about to pick up "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I've been floating around Neil Gaiman and Kurt...

people that can't read in cars>>>WIMPS?

I can read as long as I'm in the cargo area of a jeep or van, or something, but not anywhere else. I put an air matress down in a truck bed once and read for six hours straight in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and didn't get sick. Anywhere else makes me real nausceous and grumpy.

    Suggestions: February 2005

I nominate Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. It's a story about a man named Billy Pilgrim who has come "Unstuck in Time". He walks through a door in 1948 and enters a room in 1962. Living his life in separate fragments, he knows when he's going to die, when his wife will die, even when the...

    F. Scott Fitzgerald: The Great Gatsby

Hmmm.... Here is what I often tell people about Gatsby: "It is a horrible book, but a wonderful story." And I stick to that. While the story, the characters, all of it feels very true to human nature, Nick Carraway's narration of it is what spoils it. His diction is completely full of...

J.D. Salinger: The Catcher In The Rye

Greetings and salutations, all. I read Catcher about a year ago, but it's still fresh in my brain. It also happens to be a personal favorite of mine. Anywho, did anybody see how Holden renounced his title of "Catcher in the Rye" at the end? I took his job as preventing children from...
