Do you let an author's personal views affect your reading choices?

I won't let it affect my decision to read the book. However, there are going to be some people who use their money and celebrity for causes that I find morally repugnant (aka anti-gay marriage people) I would not buy those books first hand because I don't want to put money in the author's pocket.

Do we learn something from the books we read or just filling up our free time?

I probably learn something, or make a new connection, or spark a new interest in almost everything I read, even the silly crime novels and chic lit. the book I'm reading now, A Fraction of the Whole, is making me look at Australia in a different way. As I had previously never read much on it...

An article about owning too many books (?!)

The moment I realized I needed to be single was when, about 3 1/2 years ago I woke up and realized my partner had forced me to get rid of almost all of my books. She's gone. Unfortunately so are most of my books as I woke up too late :( They live at the library now. I visit them once in a...

    Are You A Slacker?

I have become such a slacker the last 9 months because I finally have a laptop which means I can haul my computer into bed with me, when it used to a book. So, consequently, I read more text but far fewer books. so. many. blogs.

    Women's Fiction

personally I think the term "women's fiction" applied to these books is a bit anti-feminist and insulting. it implies that this is the only fiction that women are going to be interested in and it tends to be badly written, materialistic and focuses solely on relationship drama, fashion and...

    Personal Reading Record

I read 37 books for a total of 15,639 pages. I was aiming for 50 but went back to school in September so that kind of derailed me! I will hit 50 this year. More time reading, less on the internets.

    "Dumbledore Is Gay" says Rowling

I believe the question was if he had ever found love? Basically, if she's written about Dumbledore believing he was gay she can either skirt the issue or tell the truth. if she's written the entire series believing he was straight and had answered to that effect no one would care. The fact...
