I am surprised by the number on that list I have actually visited.

1 Istanbul - Been there. Enjoyed it.
2 Rome - Been there. Enjoyed it.
3 London - Been there. Tolerated it.
4 Beijing - Never been, not interested.
5 Prague - Been there. Loved it.
6 Marrakech - Been there. Hated it.
7 Paris - Been there. Tolerated it.
8 Hanoi - Never been, would love to go.
9 Siem Reap - Never heard of it, maybe interested.
10 Shanghai - Never been, not interested.
 
I'd like to go back to Paris. Last time I went was on a school trip when I was 16 and several roommates and myself had to stop a girl from trying to commit suicide by jumping out of the window. :( So I'd like to go back and have a happier time there, without so much of a bitter aftertaste.
 
I've no idea what Marrakesh made the list but the one I visited was a rat infested cesspool.

Meh, dealing with Parisians made me think it would be easier to just end it all too. Normandy, now there was some good days.
 
I was shocked when my francophobe husband agreed to go to Paris. I was even more shocked that he loved it and we've returned several times. At least the times we went, the Parisians were mostly fine; on the whole, far nicer than Londoners. I think the time of year you visit Paris probably makes a big difference. We've tended to go in late winter or early spring. They're not sick of tourists yet.

No. I would try and they would inevitably politely point out that they spoke English.

Honestly, I was just poking fun at Parisians. Truth be told I found that the old stereotype fell rather flat in polite company. If I had to choose between spending any appreciable time in either London or Paris I would probably choose Paris.

I tend to find all large cities essentially the same. Big, dirty, impersonal hellholes with some points of interest but nothing that would make me live there. The trip to Marrakesh was an attempt to stroll down historical lane and look about the Punic Wars a bit. Never made it to Tunisia. Will never return for a second attempt. *shiver*

Happened to me too. I went in the beggining of June, so they shouldn't be sick of tourists yet... But what I found most surprising was that I was getting this snobby attitude from people whose work depends on tourists...
I'm just going to say it: loved the city, didn't really like the people.
 
With all due respect to tripadvisor, that list seems to be missing some great destinations.

I suppose the appeal of destinations is subjective too.

Some people like mountains and would expect Alaska, Zermatt, and or Kausani.
Other people would expect Ireland, Scotland, Italy, and Spain to be on the list.
Or those who adore the sun probably would wonder why Bermuda, Hawaii, Bali, Bora Bora, and the Mediterranean islands.

Our planet has many amazing destinations. Choosing the best is all a matter of what a person wishes to explore. Taste and interest is much too varied.
