2012 Olympics - Wrong Korean Flag!

A women's soccer match started off on the wrong foot (Mind you don't trip over the pun :whistling:) this week when officials introduced the North Korean players accompanied by the South Korean flag.

Easy mistake to make, right?

After all, they are both so similar...!

Many commentators have said "No big deal. Let's move on." - Yeah, right! North Korea, with as much due respect as I can muster, isn't known for taking such slurs lightly!

Do you think it was an embarrassing human error, or a deliberate swipe at a widely disliked nation? ;)

Of ALL the flags to confuse it with, that was the worst they could have chosen.

I don't think it was deliberate, though.

Heh.

Well speaking as a denizen of the city where the insult was made, Glasgow home to Hampden Park, I can say this was not deliberate. When we want to insult anyone we leave them in no doubt they're being insulted.

That being said of all the teams to unintentionally insult during these Olympics we would have to blunder on North Korea! The officials couldn't have made a better job if they had stocked the washrooms with Kim Jong-un toilet paper.

It evens up the score I suppose... we insulted South Korea in 1993 during the Rugby World Cup Sevens! The team arrived in Scotland to discover the North Korean flag printed on the official merchandise, ah well.
