Book 1:
I had a copy of this book in the late 70's/early 80's. Without the dust
jacket, it was a goldenrod colored hardback. It had black & white
illustrations in it.
It was about a pig who was a Dowager Duchess, she throws a cocktail party
or something of that nature, & her jewels are stolen or go missing. There
is a fox who is a detective or some kind of official who investigates the
robbery or disappearance of the jewels. I remember it had a British feel
to it.
At one point, the animals, or maybe just the Duchess, sings the 'Boatman
Song' (Boatman dance, boatman sing, boatman do most anything...)
From yahoo! Answers, someone suggested it may be one of Jane Yolen's
'Piggins' series, but this book was published prior to 1984 - possibly
around 1980. The illustrations were solely in black & white, and it had
one page w/the illustration & the facing page was text - not like a
'picturebook'.
Book 2:
This was a color-illustrated hardback anthology of scary stories for kids, (probably in the 8 - 10 year-old range). It was in my elementary school library when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade, which would have been the early 1980s - but the school is gone now. One of the stories was about a sock-puppet monkey that came to life, another involved an alien that resembled a preying mantis, and I believe another one was about a monster who lived in 'negative space' (the space between things, like the art-school reference).
Book 3:
This book would have probably been in the 'YA' section of the library. It was a fantasy novel, out sometime between 1982 - 1985. It was about a boy raised by talking otter-like creatures who were under threat from a wyrm of some sorts. I vaguely remember the boy's name being something similar to Kai, but I'm not sure & that name doesn't ring any search engine bells. It had a similar feel to Meredith Ann Pierce's Firebringer trilogy about the unicorns.
