Such good reviews that I can't even find it on Amazon.com.
And don't take that as a comment that I wanted to find it - I just wanted to check out these reviews and make sure they weren't from friends/family of Mr Gaddis.
Why should I care about the dude's birthday? Is he going to ask my boss for a wage rise for my birthday? Seriously - I am a really hard worker and it's my dream to earn more.
Beer Good, you are right--It is my job to sell the book. Just so you know, it's kind of daunting knowing that I'm competing with every book ever written. But, then again, a bunch of them aren't that good, so I have a decent shot. 
So, here it goes...

Where do the good reviews come from then? Did Mr Gaddis release proofs? Early copies? And if so, who to?

Hmm. Unfortunately you said the one word that would send me heading for the hills..."fantasy". Not my bag.
Plus, the last time I agreed to read and review a book from a self-published author (AND he sent me a proper book (imagine!) free) it didn't go well.
Plus, Mr Gaddis asks his readership on his site to come up with the plot and he'll write the book. I shudder at this and not in good ways.
Beer Good, there is only so much you can do with selling a self-published book. Starting off, of course the first wave of people to buy it will be family and friends, and then some random people who catch wind of it and want to support a local author. But just because his family said they like it doesn't mean it isn't good. His family can't have literary taste?

As for the last time you read a self-published book and gave a bad review, I know for a fact Christopher wouldn't be wary of you honestly critiquing his work. Not everyone will enjoy a book--I mean, some people hate Harry Potter, some hate Stephen King, some hat Shakespeare, but that doesn't mean they aren't good books or good authors.
As for the blog, it was an interactive way to involve readers with the development of the story. They vote on what happens next, and Christopher writes it. Did you read The Ghost and The Thief on his blog? It is the first story he and another author did last year, letting the audience decide which way the story went. It isn't a masterpiece, but it is enjoyable...and all the more enjoyable knowing that each chapter was written in a day or two.

Why is any piece of writing more enjoyable once you know it's been written in a short period of time? That just makes no sense at all.

I've got to tip my hat to you, Jiles, you have gone to some length, and politely so, to defend Mr Gaddis. You gotta be married to him.
So if I buy this book and I think it's complete drivel, will I get a refund?
Depends on the author and their style, I suppose. Seeing as I'm doing my postgrad in Modernist literature none of the books I read have been written in the course of a few days or weeks but have been rewritten and changed and taken several years to finish instead.

Sparkchaser, I don't think a refund will be in the works. But I hope, if you do decide to purchase a copy, that you won't go into in thinking it will be bad. Give it a chance...you might be surprised.
