Absolute Page Turners Wanted!!!

I would love to get books that are absolute page turners! Right now I'm reading Dances with Wolves and its got me going really well.

It can be anything from horror, to romance.

Absolutely anything!

Oh and If you could, can you guys please explain why you picked the book you did? Thanks!
 
Have you read 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time' by Mark Haddon? I know it was a big hit in the UK last year, but I would honestly recommend that one as the book that I just couldn't put down. I'm not a very fast reader or anything but I couldn't help but read that book in 6 hours straight, with only food and toilet breaks. :)
 
Leaving aside all the hype, "The Da Vinci Code" is a page-turner.

Other authors whose work is compelling: Grisham, Patterson, Lindsay Davis, Cormac McCarthy, Kellerman
 
I would definitely recommend Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I don't know how old you are, of course, but this book is geared toward teenagers. However, I'm sure adults would love it, too.

I absolutely LOVE this book. I read it in one sitting and could not put it down. It's basically a love story that has vampires in it, but it's described as a book about vampires for people that don't like vampire books (such as myself).

If you haven't already read it, check it out.

anything from Dan Brown is a page turner. I find all of Kurt Vonnegut's books to be page turners.

Much as I would like to laugh at any suggestion of Dan Brown being anything, I have to concede that his books - well, the one book I persevered with - can be page turners due to the sheer volume of cliffhangers due to short chapters.

Having just finished it, I would recommend Sulphuric Acid by Amélie Nothomb. It's a spiky little take on reality television, pushing the format to extremes, and doing so with sharp, minimal prose that has you reading on to find out what happens next, much in the same way viewers of such shows are complicit in sustaining them.

I was not refering to Dan Brow himself but his association with Kurt Vonnegut's.Like saying i love ABBA and the Sex pistols.
As for the short chapiters,it's not because a book is efficient that it make it gripping for all readers.War and peace was a "pageturner" to me,i could not read it fast enough,even jupping pages to know some happenings.Some fond it boring or tedious."Pageturner" or "hedge-the-sit" are jacket cover expression that appart from a commercial meaning,does not say much to the reader,being utterly subjective.

Hey! I love ABBA and the Sex Pistols! (Hell, the Sex Pistols loved ABBA. Ever compared "SOS" to "Pretty Vacant"?)

The latest absolute page turner I read was Max Brooks' World War Z. Again - short, punchy chapters. A lot better than Dan Brown, though.
 
My all time page turner, I've read it 3 times and lent it out to all my friends, and all but one loved it.... 'Replay' by Ken Grimwood. What would you do if you could live your life over again... and again... and again... and the people you loved last time round are dead, different, or never even existed?

I wasn't refferring to Dan Brown as anything but having page turners. I agree 100% with the reason why that you gave.

It was a book I read in a couple of sittings, but I really didn't love it that much... plus I almost hated the ending - it was very abrupt.

Try 'The Gift','the Riddle', and the 'The Crow' by Alison Croggon,they are so good that i ripped the pages several times

if you want books that REALLY make your heart beat,try the Demonata seiries by Darren Shan,a 10 book seiries,7 of which are out,they go 'Lord Loss','Demon Thief','Slawter','Bec','Blood Beast','Demon Apocalypse',and the latest is 'Death's Shadow',the next book will be 'Wolf Island',those asre really thrilling books with alot of death,adventure and grisly demons

Also try the world famous 'Eragon' by Christopher Paolini,its followed by 'Eldest',eragon is actually a film and a game too

i can suggest so many more,from Tom Becker's 'Darkside' to Julia Golding's 'Dragonfly' to Katherine Roberts 'Seven Ancient Wonders'
 
3 Great Reads for you

If you haven't read "Sweetness in the Belly" by Camilla Gibb, you should. It's a remarkable book--the story of a white girl growing up as a Muslim in Ethiopia. A real journey, with multiple settings and well-developed characters--hard to put this one down. When you're done reading Sweetness you can continue your trek through the Muslim world with...

"The Places in Between" by Rory Stewart. It's a true story of a white British government worker who walks across Afghanistan just weeks after the Taliban has been ousted. Fascinating reading, provides a real insight and perspective into Afghanistan and the Muslim culture.

My final recommend is "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls. This story is also true and equally fascinating. It's about a mother and father who choose to live in poverty, and sometimes even homeless. The parents are gifted and eccentric, the children all equally bright. It's a wild and, at times, unbelievable story that will have you laughing one minute and shaking your head in disbelief the next.

I enjoyed all three of these books very much.
