anyone in to asian films?

I have not seen that one, but I can picture it. those films are all pretty much the same. a group of nazis go into the concentration camps, round up sultry "jewish" men and women, perform acts of sexual cruelty on them, and then somehow manage to get trapped and killed. roll end credits. nevertheless, I've found exploitation films to be enjoyable. I just didn't like the ilsas. the dialogue was nails on a chalkboard, even for a bunch of campy horror flicks.

Watched House of Flying Daggers the other nite. Thought is was better than Hero, which looked great but left me a bit cold. I love Zhang Yimou's use of primary colors in his films.

The story in both those movies is pretty thin, but they are incredibly beautiful. Especially Hero. I wasnt so impressed with House of Flying Daggers, but maybe thats just because i've seen too many of those movies with flying martial artists lately.

Watched Musa the other day and absolutely loved it.

I love Musa the Warrior.

I primarily like Asian action and martial arts movies, and some horror. I'd like to collect some of the old samurai movies but it's not in my budget right now. I'm a big Godzilla fan too. :)

I didn't at all like Hero. I don't really like the fantasy wire-fu style movies. There's a few that I think are fun but Hero wasn't one of them.

the whole movie sucked, no funny stuff, a lot of clichés. ziyi zhang is hot.

It was just another pretty movie with no substance - but pretty as it was it couldn't hold my attention.

Did anyone like Hero? I can get it for free this month, but if it's so bad, I might as well go for Being There (with Peter Sellers).

Out of all the Ziyi Zhang flicks, I would choose in this order:

Hero
House of Flying Daggers
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Vagina

Oh yeah, Ziyi is indeed hot!

Watched Red Porno(Tenshi no harawata: Akai inga), part of the Angel Guts series. There are 5 or six of these movies, all revolving around a titular character named Nami. This one wasn't too bad, though a little short at just over an hour.

I love Asian films. My favorites are Hero, House of Flying Daggers (which was awesome in the theater), Chungking Express (more of a comedy), The Road Home (my favorite), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, among others. I'm looking forward to soon seeing In The Mood For Love and 2046, which I've heard are really great.

Favorite actors/actresses are Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Ziyi, Tony Leung, Faye Wong, Maggie Cheung, and Jet Li (who I thought was great in Unleashed).

And I can't wait to see Memoirs of a Geisha in the theater when it comes out. :D

Hmm... very HongKong, Inamorata. Do you understand Cantonese/Mandarin?

I'm very hesitant of Jet Li flicks done in the States. I thought Unleashed looked very formulaic, plenty of action scenes that looks good in trailers but suck in the actual movie. But like an unrepentent sinner I'll probably catch it in the cinema anyway, and hopefully I don't get kicked in the groin like I did the last 4 times.

I wish I understood Cantonese/Mandarin. Would love to try learning it someday.

About the fight scenes in Unleashed. I was worried about them looking really fake, so I hesitated in going to see it, but I thought they were great, and am glad I spent the money on it.

Well, I've seen Unleashed, and I was not too impressed with the fights. Sure, they were okay, but I'm getting the feeling that his US-based films are now too violent - all that bone-breaking and neck-snapping moves is a little reminiscent of those old B-grade action flicks. I much prefer his HK films, where the fights were choreographed with all the gracefulness of a dance, and none of those crude bone-splintering-out-of-skin stuff.

The film is nicely shot, and is the best US-based Jet Li film yet. I like the girl in the film, she's pretty cool. Also, I was surprised to see the actress who played his mom in the film - she is a former Miss Malaysia.

I really like the action scenes in HK movies as well. Very nicely done. But there is one annoying thing with a lot of HK action movies, and thats when they try to be funny. The jokes are often corny and a bit stupid. A good example is the John Woo movie Once a Thief (the HK version). The pure action movies like Hard Boiled and the Killer are much better.

Somehow when good HK directors go to Hollywood the quality of their movies drop considerably. Just look at John Woo.

Can't remember the story for Once a Thief. But it's true that most HK action movies have some moments of fun. Some done better than others, without taking anything away from the movie.

Those older HK movie period kungfu flicks have characters flying around here and there, but the wire work was much less obvious than the ones you currently see now. The first really awful wirefu flick I saw, which really made it obvious that the wires were there, was Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Want to watch a scary movie? "Shutter"..scary...other films I recommend:
Twins Effect I & II, Jackie Chan-Police Story, Once Upon a time in China
"Jet Li", Young and Dangerous, Body Guard, Mermaid got Marry, there's so many out there. But recently I haven't heard/seen any new ones. A little update!!!

I would love to see a real action movie now a days. Not computer graghic images. I love watching Jackie Chan movies. They're real stunts. His most recent release "Police story". Anyone seen? It's real good. Lots of actions.
Anyone like Andy Lau..Running with Karma..Great Movie!!

Just quickly scanned the thread and didn't see either Casshern or Spirited Away mentioned.

Casshern is a sci-fi and visually it's astounding. The story is damn good too. Highly recommended.

If you haven't seen Spirited Away yet I urge you to do so now. It may be animated but it's one of the most moving films you will ever see.

Other asian animation I would recommend includes Princess Monomoke, Tokyo Godfathers and Kiki's Delivery Service.
