Are You A Slacker?

-Carlos-

Are you a disciplined reader (daily reader of novels and/or non-fiction books) or do you read one day and then slack off for another day or two before returning to your books? Inquiring minds demand to know! :D

It depends on how much I love the book. If I'm really taken with the book, I can hardly put it down. If the book isn't riveting then I may skip a day before I read it again.

You say that as if there's something wrong with being a slacker. I read when I have time.

How should my post be phrased so it doesn't sound the way you alleged. I do not think that being a slacker is wrong. Please, don't read into things in the negative.

Please, please, please, let's not start that crap again. Please. I have nothing but good intent for this thread. For the life of me I can't see how my post reads how you see it. Is it me you don't like or my words here? Let's sort this out via PM. If you are holding hostilities toward me let me know so that we can deal with it and cast it away. I want harmony, that's all. Harmony. Let's talk via PM. Thanks you guys.

I embrace my inner slacker...I slack on my reading when I write more. Also, it is hard to find a balance that doesn't leave all of us booklovers hermits. Then again we don't really need human contact with a place like this.

Oh, and by the way, I am a total slacker when it comes to books. Honestly, I do not like that fact for I see it as a bad habit- but that's just me. I wish I had a remedy for it. Ooh well.

I don't know if 'slacking off' is the proper term.. sometimes life just gets in the way of a good read. If the book is the least bit dull, life outside the book is too alluring.. even if it just means I have to fix dinner or rub my husband's feet. I think reading, like many other interests, is seasonal..Sometimes I'll read like a madwoman and othertimes I can't get interested in anything.

I don't see reading as some sort of job (well, apart from when I'm reviewing a book professionally, that is).

I do it because I enjoy reading. How much I read in a given time period depends on many other things, though – how busy I am with work, how tired I am after work etc.

I didn't read much last week – not because I didn't want to, but because we were intensely busy at work and I was too shattered afterwards.

I don't regard it as 'slacking' or lacking any "discipline".

Technically speaking the definition of Slacker is as follows:
1: a person who shirks work or obligation; especially : one who evades military service in time of war
2: a person and especially a young person who is perceived to be disaffected, apathetic, cynical, or lacking ambition.

However the language is flexible and meanings come and go, but the word "slacker" has always contained a connotation of being deliberately lazy about something.

I don't think I've ever deliberately not read, there are times when other obligations either take up all my time, or worry accomplishes the same. Otherwise, I've a book in my hand. :)

I constantly have a book somewhere around me.

Some times if I am so busy like last week, I didn't open book up for three days, but I am back on track now.

I kind of slack in some ways. I generally read alot of philosophy or anarchist literature or classics, but after awhile they seem to mentally **** me.And i resort to reading Iris johansen or Michael Crichton or anything that seems very "smoothe" to read. If that makes sense?

I've been known to carry a book at all times too..the bad thing about not having to carry a diaper bag is trying to find a purse that will hold all my junk+ a book and still look good while not damaging my shoulder..tall order:whistling:

I read every day, but each day I read for 1/2 to 1 hour. So generally I take a lot of days to finish a book. But I never stop. Slowly and always...

Only exceptionally I read for more than an hour during a day. That happens when I'm very interested in the book. As an example, the book that I'm reading right now is not that interesting so I don't spend much time reading it. But it's not a bad reading, the book is nice, just not nice enough for me to spend hours reading during the day.

I find myself to be a reluctant slacker--having ownership of an extremely busy life (not always with glee) leisure time is somewhat wanting, and reading time is sporadic...sadly...

I pretty much read whenever I feel like doing it ( usually an hour or so a day). Sometimes I take breaks though.

School wise, I know so many people that put in way more work than me, but still end up getting the same grade as me or worse. I half-ass things and still get A's. I don't know if it's because teachers like me, or if I am just naturally good at school. This is at the university level by the way.
