Yes, they are real. They were added today. Only Google text ads will occupy that slot for the moment. They're supposed to be relevent to the page content and we earn a small commission for each click.

yeah i thought they were new to, actually they annoy me. dont know why. i tend to stare at em instead of posting or reading, then i forget what

All I've seen so far are the ads for Thrifty50. I clicked it and followed some of the subsequent links. Looks like it's targeted at senior citizens, but it led to some coupon web sites (didn't see any coupons I wanted).
