Why are capital letters mostly completely different to the corresponding lower case letters, instead of being the same, just larger?

Thanks for the answer Martin :)

You know, Halo, that's a GOOD question! I never thought about that! I want to know why!

I have a question...how does this work?

You really killed me with these triangles... :( I even printed them and cut into parts...and there is no fraud  But finally I've come up with the solution :) It's simple, the God makes it! :D And everything is obvious now ;)

Egads! Why didn't we see it before? It must be some sort of zen triangle, and to understand it we must first strip our consiousness of everything we think we know and let the universe fill us with awareness. And hopefully some chocolate Hobnobs too.

And some Jaffa Cakes :)

Personally, if religion is involved, im staying well away from those triangles.

In fact, are we even allowed to talk about them anymore??

Halo:

COPSUVWXZ: Capital letters that look like the corresponding lower case letters.
ABDEFGHIJKLMNQRTY: Capital letters that don't look like the corresponding lower case letters.

You know, I've wondered about this myself, and your question has made me look everywhere for a decent answer, but I can't find it. I will, though. I will find an answer to this question. In due time. Just not jet.

look at the combined light green and orange pieces. the triangle makes sense because the perimeter might be longer on one of them, but the area is larger on the other. I'm so bad at math though ...

Have a look here for some answers. It's a big site, so I'm not even gonna try to paraphrase it into a nice and compact answer; you'll just have to look for yourself. It's quite interesting, actually.

The Latin alphabet evolved from the Etruscan alphabet, a writing system that evolved from Greek once Greek settlers had migrated to what is now modern Italy.

The lowercase letters developed from cursive versions of the uppercase letters.

We should rename this the 'Ask Martin, and wait for someone else to turn up with a decent answer' thread ;)

Hey hey hey!

I said I'd try to answer as many questions as possible, and I think I haven't done a bad job at all, considering the fact that this has turned into a 600-post thread.

NEXT!

Cheers, Martin

Don't worry Martin, I'm still impressed! And thanks to Mile-o too! :)

I'm off now to try and think up another fiendishly taxing question ...

OKay, I have a question. How is the quoted statement true when the quoted statement was taken from post #572 of this thread? :D

Personally I think one of the moderators took the 20+ posts.

I can tell you out of past experience that they're pretty sneaky and might walk off without anything that's not nailed down.

But then again, me & Dan (I call him Dan) kinda have this conspiracy thing going don'tchaknow
