Hi Everyone,
I'm new around here, so please forgive any slips of protocol.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks in my car and portable CD/MP3 players. What I'd like to do is get a portable digital reader like the new Walkman MP3 players, iPod, etc.
These days most of the digital readers have USB interfaces. I have a PC that I can use to transfer titles to the player that way; I can also convert the Audio CD versions to MP3, so I think I'm all set as far as books on CD/MP3 are concerned.
Unfortunately I'm having a hard time figuring out what to buy. Most of the reviews are by music listeners who don't always require features that an audiobook listener would. For example, track memory: for an audiobook listener, the player needs to remember where it is in an MP3 file when it's turned off. Otherwise it'll start at the beginning when it's turned on again.
Then there are issues with proprietary file formats. Some of the Sony Walkmans require conversion of MP3 files to some sort of proprietary format before they can be downloaded to the player. I sure don't want anything to do with that.
Sorry about rambling like this. I have a hard time explaining myself with an economy of words.
So, can any audiobook listeners recommend a good portable digital player?
Are the newer Walkmans any good? Are iPods good with audiobooks?
Thanks to all who took the time to read this long message,
