Bill Bryson: A Short History of Nearly Everything

I recently finished this great audiobook. A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. This highly entertaining book examines the history of science, the state of our current scientific understanding, and the gaps in our knowledge (the gaps that we are aware of, anyhow).

It would be interesting to compare and contrast that book with Ken Wilber's A Brief History of everything. Wilber is an "integral" writer, one who likes to make diagrams as to how science and faith can be united through quadrants. I will definitely have to check out the Norto book.

the only book I have read - so far - by Bill Bryson is At Home. it was marvelous! so if you enjoyed A Short History of Nearly Everything, you would like this book also. going room to room in a home, but beginning with the history of glass in England, you will find out why we have the rooms in our homes we do - and why we put what we do in them!
along the way he introduces several fascinating but seldom known individuals.

I have read at home and short history along with several others I am currently reading a walk in the woods and all are excellent reads.i should say that I also listened to a few on audible(notes from a small island made in America)he reminds me of mark twain with his humor and observations.i would be interested in other authors with similar writings if anyone cares to share.

I loved that one, too. Only trouble with all the interesting information is that I just didn't have enough brain capacity to remember it all.

I had the same problem, I ended up buying the audio book and subject my kiddo and hubby to listening to it quite often while driving around. I think it was the first audio book I actually bought, I usually just borrow them from the library.

I have started to listen to know it all and started reading The disappearing Spoon, the two of them are full of informative tidbits and are exactly what I was hoping for.thanks again Ronnie
