Book Lights

I need to buy a book light. The last one I got was something cheap from Wal-Mart where the clip broke off the moment I took it out of the packaging. :(

I don't know what to purchase though...

clip on lights for books?

I want to get one of those little clip on lights - but they all kind of look cheasy - do any of them really work well?

I've heard good things about the Itty Bitty Book Light especially now that they are LCD and not incandescent.

I had a clip on light but it just annoyed me because there wasn't enough light for me to be able to read properly.

I used to use one years ago when I was in a van pool. Four c cell batteries and an incandescent bulb. I had plenty of light.

People... the solution for reading in low light situations? Ebooks!

(no, no, no, I'm not talking about reading on your computer, regardless of whether it sits on your lap or on the floor or on the desk! I'm talking about the ones that fit in your hand)

I went through a whole handful of book lights. I could never find a good one. Either the arm of the light kept drifting down as I read or I couldn’t get the light to point just how I wanted. When I purchased my Kindle this light was marketed right alongside the Kindle and I gave it a try. It is perfect. And it works just as well when I use it with a normal paper book. It gives off plenty of light and it can be positioned into any position. This is handy when reading in bed because I can have the light point at my book from the side, pointing directly AWAY from my fiancé. It is the best one I have found so far, although I certainly haven’t tried them all.

I have to disagree with you there direstraights. Not about ebooks, because I have a Kindle and love it, but about them being the solution to reading in low light. I am going to assume you aren’t referring to e-book readers like the Kindle that use e-ink. Those emit no light and thus need an alternate light source just like a paper book if you are going to read them in the dark. I assume you are referring to reading ebooks on a device that has an LCD screen. I think that is fine for short periods of time. I can even read on an LCD for long periods of time in a well lit room, such as my computer at work. But in my experience reading from an LCD screen in a dark room hurts my eyes after awhile. The light is shining directly from the device into your eyes. LCDs also have the disadvantage of not being easy to read in BRIGHT light such as outside in the sun. That is a problem that e-book readers using e-ink don’t have.

That being said, perhaps the LCD technology has improved recently to make some of my arguments moot.
