Book most like Harry Potter?

I have trouble getting through most books unless they're wildly entertaining and fast paced. Harry Potter is both for the most part. one of the rare books that is i think. basically even though i dont have dislexia or anything i probably have a harder time getting through most books than many who do, so - what book/s like harry potter would you recommend to a very very slow reader, for instance? Like it really has the be that good.

I know exactly what you mean, although I don't really have any suggestions, cause I'm having the same problem. I love the harry potter books because there not only simple, but extremely good. If you like the movie Dances with wolves, then the book would be good for you, it happens to be simple but it turns out the movie followed the book really well! Which surprised me cause movies usually destroy the books.

As I read more, I will keep you updated on books that will help :)
 
You might be interested in trying The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott. Book two in the series is scheduled to come out soon.
 
I love Harry Potter, too. For me, it is really interesting that it's like you can't stop reading anymore. :D

If you want a story similar to the Harry Potter series, you can try Series of Unfortunate Events.. but I rather think the story is shorter than that of the HP series.

If you want something which is stimulating and interesting, but away from the story of HP, I think Gossip Girls would be a good read -- that's in my opinion anyway. I find the story real interesting and even read 1 novel for 1 day.
 
"wildly entertaining and fast paced" and "book/s like harry potter" my first suggestions would be:
The Earthsea Quartet - Ursula LeGuin
The Bartimaeus Trilogy - Jonathon Stroud
The Fareseer Books - Robin Hobb

Other authors to try could include - Anne Mcaffery, Guy Gavriel Kay, David Gemmell, Kate Elliott

and pushing the boundaries a but you might want to move out and try some other fantasy ones from Tolkien, CS Lewis, etc.
 
I went awhile without any close relationships to people, and during that time I read a lot of the gossip girl books and was very much entertained. then I finally had some intimate interaction with a real live human being and realized that the characters in gossip girl are completely fake, so then i stopped reading. that was before high school though. then i got to high school and realized that some people actually are a bit like the gossip girl characters. but still, the books are a little too superficial and fake. but the show - i love the show! haha. anyway, ill check the recommendations out. thanks a lot! but what's this nick flamel stuff? thats a harry potter character. someone else wrote a book about him?

Nicolas Flamel is a real person, I do believe, not just a character in Harry Potter.

At any rate, I would recommend His Dark Materials Trilogy by Phillip Pullman.
 
I'll second The Bartimaeus Trilogy, and also suggest Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Both fantastic series, as well as fast-paced, entertaining reads.

I don't mind. I'm a boy, 20 years old. Is the trilogy you suggested the one with The Golden Compass? I remember enjoying that a lot as a kid when it was read to me, but I eventually tried reading the third one when it came out (having been read the first two a few years earlier), and i lost interest in it half way through.
 
The Bartimaeus Trilogy's books are The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem's Eye, and Ptolemy's Gate.

And, P.S., His Dark Materials is the trilogy that starts with The Golden Compass. :)
 
No book can get as good as Harry Potter - in my opinion. The Golden Compass was OK, but not like Harry Potter. Bartimaeus Trilogy books are ok....
 
The lost years of merlin series, after the first few chapters of the first book it gets really good.

Artemis fowl series

Bartimus books( can't remember the name)

Del tora quest series

dark tower series by stephen king

warriors of avalon

etc
 
It's about a kid going on a journey to collect some stones so he can save his country/family. Blah, I can't explain it as well at it deserves. But it's a pretty good series and I probably wouldn't be into reading if I didn't pick it up when I was a kid.
 
Terry Pratchett has the same mix of imagination, quirky British humour, witches and wizards, and stories with more depth to them than you realise at first reading, but having said that, the Discworld novels aren't all that much like the Harry Potter ones.

For books with youngsters at the centre and with a good amount of mystery, myth, and legend, there's the Dark Is Rising series by Susan Cooper.
 
Oooh yes, I had forgotten about the Lost Years of Merlin series. T. A. Barron is fantastic. His newer, adult novels are great as well.
