Book or e-book?

Computer screens hurt my eyes very quickly (even non-CRTs) and to me theres nothing like the aesthetic of an actual book. AND they're portable and lot less likely to be stolen if left alone for a few minutes.

Acutally, I was reading something recently that said, contrary to popular predictions, that the internet has actually increased demand through print books through sites like Amazon and communities (I guess, like this one). I think people are way too resistent to e-books.

Me too. Books have distinctive scents. Scents that often take me back the euphoria of the bookstore or library.

They do. I am always sniffing books. There is no better smell than flicking the pages of a new paperback book and smelling the new story inside.

Actual books with actual paper are the best, and can't be substituted by any form. E-books might make books more readily available with lots of advantages, such as searching, size and can be easily shared, but I don't believe they will ever be substituted in the future.

Same here

I've looked at the Sony reader specifications. It seems horribly expensive, and the special Sony book format puts me off. I have also looked at iRex Technologies iLiad. This looks like just the thing I want, it can handle multiple formats and has wifi, but it is incredibly expensive and doesn't seem to be available in New Zealand.

I though the same thing about Sony Reader. It's expensive for just a book reader. Now many hand-held devices can support ebooks, but I guess they won't be that convenient, it would be small, plus the LCD won't be well visible when there is sun light.

I would consider buying one, if I can find all my textbooks as ebooks ;) then it would be amazing. No need for heavy expensive books.

Given that I tend to annotate textbooks, and highlight specific pages, an electronic version would be much handier and would prevent me from being lynched by people who see printed and bound material as something to be revered.

I don't sniff books. I don't know what sort of germs and toxins might be lurking in the pages.

For that matter I prefer normal books, but I got what you mean, though you shouldn't care if people comment on your notes in your books, it's something private that they should have no business in. Just ignore them...

Sniffing books is one of the things that when you unconsciously do, you later realize your addicted to books, regardless of the consequences...:p
