Books about drug addiction

Hi, I'm looking for advice on books about drug addiction. Are there any good first-person accounts out there about heroin/cocaine addiction.

I'm hoping to give a suitable book to my daughter to read. She needs to see the realities of what drugs can do.

I'd read Come Back: A Mother and Daughter's Journey Through Hell and Back by Claire Fontaine & Mia Fontaine - a real life story. Mia was the daughter who was addicted to meth. The book alternates between Claire's and Mia's perspectives.

I'd also read Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction by David Sheff. I think I like Come Back a bit better, but that could be because I read that first, and this book is only from the dad's perspective. The son, did write a book also but I haven't read it yet - Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff. So this is on meth again.

I only read those books out of interest. Read the reviews on amazon and see what you think. Hope it helps or at least give you a starting point.

How old is your daughter?

I forgot, I read this also - this time it is a daughter/father book, but still on meth.

Loss of Innocence: A Daughter's Addiction. A Father's Fight to Save Her by Ron Clem (Author), Carren Clem

You could try 'Dying to Survive' Dubdub. It's about an Irish girl's fight to get off drugs, and how she got onto them in the first place. It's been on all the news in Ireland here for the past few days - Sky News had her own, she was in the Sunday World, and probably a fre others I didn't see (was too busy reading boks!)

Best regards,

Smack by Melvin Burgess would probably be good. I DEFINITELY second the Basketball Diaries recommendation, and I also loved the movie. It is a true story and the author, Jim Carroll, was able to get it together...he is a writer, musician, and an AMAZING poet. I don't know how the book Trainspotting is but the movie is really heavy. The Snow Garden by Christopher Rice covers some drugs/bad consequences issues but is also a mystery.
Also, this one is about alcohol, but I love Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes.
