Books you never expected to like

Beloved by Toni Morrison. I forgot that I didn't expect to enjoy this and it really wasn't that bad.
 
Animal Farm. I thought a book about a bunch of barnyard animals would be boring and stupid. Guess I was the stupid one... ;)

y'know ions, I'm sorry I left Hamilton before joining this board, I would have loved to have coffee w/ you. We have such similar tastes. This is at the top of my To Be Read pile and I think I'll start it tonight based on your rec. Thanks.
 
I'm sorry you left too! At least I'd have someone in a 100km radius with the same taste in books as I have. :)

I'm glad you did though. I love this book. Despite the subject matter, I always regard it as an optimistic story. It doesn't matter what the regime says, or thinks, or does, it cannot EVER completely stifle the human spirit.

I didn't expect to enjoy that book either. I read it mainly because I was out of reading material and for our BOTM discussions, but I thought it was great (even if the end's a bit sluggish).
 
To Kill A Mockingbird. We had to read it this year for English. I resented the fact that it was about law and segregation, but once I got into it, I could barely stop. Only downside was the seven weeks we spent discussing it...ugh!
 
Dracula - probably the first "old" book i read, after years of watching the old dracula's movies, i guess i though that in a scarry novel writen 100 years ago the scarry concept would seem to naive for today's standars, so all i can say its, it was a very pleasant surprise :D
 
I never expected to like anything by Virginia Woolf, but both Mrs Dalloway & To The Lighthouse have been very interesting reads.
 
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
I read the first 52 pages because my brother told me it was great and i stopped because the first 52 pages were nothing special. Then I picked it up again and finished it all within a few days (which is pretty good for me!) and i absolutly loved it.
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
I had to read it for school, and i loved it! One of my favorites!
