buying books from amazon or anyother online bookstore?!!

Hi xBasx

You may wanna check out some second hand online stores for textbooks as they may be a lot cheaper. I know abebooks is a good one but not sure where they ship to/what cost. Maybe some other people could recommend other sites?

The problem with Amazon, at least as far as middle eastern destinations are concerned, is the high delivery prices. The price of the books you order often doubles after you include delivery costs.

So Amazon works great if you want to order one special, hard to find book once in a while, but constant use will leave a hole in your pocket.

ahlan [hi in arabic :) ]

I want to ask about online books shopping. coz in Saudi arabia, I can't find all books I want to.
but the thought of giving my credit card number online is kinda frightening

is there anyone who had the experience of online shopping from amazon that can help me.

thanks alot
Using credit cards online is safe because of RSA public key encryption. The only way to crack it would be to factor a publicly known huge number (greater than 10^300) into two also very huge (privately known) prime numbers that are its only factors. This factoring would take longer than the age of the universe on the most up to date machines, and even with 50 million computers banding together it would take thousands of years to crack a single encryption of one transaction. So, the only problems you could encounter with using credit cards online is that you get charged too much. Or your computer could be infested with spyware that steals your credit card number as you type it in and sends it to a 3rd party.

I use Amazon.com and Powells.com all the time. I did look at the Powell's international shipping and it is a little bit pricey.

Also, most credit cards have a policy that states that you are not liable for fraudulant purchases, online or otherwise. You may want to check with the issuing company to see what their rules are regarding fraud. For instance...on all U.S. issued Visa cards, this applies.

I've been using amazon.com to order books for a long time, and I love it. Their service was absolutely wonderful.

On one of my orders, the box appeared to have been broken into or opened and resealed, and I found both books were there, but my CD wasn't. I informed them, and they sent me another one priority mail, free of charge--even though I had originally ordered it with free (and slow) shipping.

You don't have to use credit cards to order, it's just the fastest and cleanest option. I don't know anyone who has had problems with their credit cards afterwards, and I certainly didn't have problems with mine.
