I read this book some years ago, and I can't remember title or author, it was borrowed from the library. It was about a young girl, somewhere in England;she was very poor as a child, but she makes her way into the high-society as a courtesan, taking a false identity. A few people discover who she really is, they manage to track her past, and she is desperate that the one she is madly in love with will find out that she is a courtesan, and has no aristocratic blood in her. She is pulling up all kinds of situations and circumstances, in her desperate attempt to hide all that from him.
Extremely good book, I would LOVE to read it again.
