Some years ago I read a book I loved. Now that I'm old, the details are gone and I'd like to read it again. Can't remember the title or author.
It's about:
A war veteran (Korean, Vietnam?) is haunted by the deeds, actions, etc., he was involved in. He enters a monastery even though he has a wife and children. After some years, and I don't remember the details, while he's still in the monastery, he is elected Pope. Can't remember the details. A lot of controversial politics follow.
