Chuck Palahniuk: Rant

So, first off what did you think? I"m not sure I liked it yet, it's one of those books for me. Anyway, I had a question about it, and wondered if anyone had some ideas... If you've read it, remember the character Echo? She's a major character, one of the main characters, but she is left out of the "contributors" section at the end of the book. Every other character is there, even the ones with one line... This had to be intentional, but why I wonder? Just trying to piece together the book, and I think this might be a big factor... Or maybe it's nothing.

I wondered that myself. I have no idea, maybe she went back and erased her existence. Maybe she was really Tina Something. I'm really grasping with that last one.

It could be that, except that Wax guy was there, and he erased himself. The idea that she's Tina Something, that's interesting, I hadn't thought of that. The only thing I could think of is that she is the "writer" of this story, but I don't know what that would mean for the story. Would that mean that you can't believe anything she says in the book cause she's writing everything down? Oh well, I guess we'll never know, really.

Thinking about this book makes my head hurt. I thought it was good up until the time travel stuff started. I loved the descriptions of Rant's childhood, and enjoyed the night and day societies idea. There's a lotta stuff going on in this book and probably more that I didn't catch with just one read.

It was a fine book, but I think one of Palahniuk's weaker efforts... Just too many, "I wonder if that can even happen" moments. But yeah, I pretty much feel the same, good until all the weird time-traveling stuff.

 

[Anamnesis]

I'd say this was one of the worst books I've ever read this year, but that would imply I actually finished the damn thing. A shame, really, since I was looking forward to reading it. The ideas Palahniuk had for this book were great; it was the execution of these ideas that really let me down.

One question about this book: has the character Echo been mentioned in any of Palahniuk's other books? The name sounded so familiar...

I'm not sure that Echo is in one of his other books, but it's possible. He does have some things that appear in all his books, like the color corn-flower blue.

The question of who was writing the book is a mystery to me. I might have to read it again. I enjoyed it, but if was not my favorite of his novels.

I fucking hated this book. Time travel in a Palahniuk book? C'mon! Chuck needs to redeem himself with his next novel because Haunted and Rant were HORRIBLE!! I heard that this was to be a series. If that's the case, I will not read another one in this series. Sucked ass, I tell you! SUCKED ASS!
