Cozy Favorites?

I'm hoping to get some recommendations for some good, cozy reads.

By "cozy" I mean those books that have a peaceful sweetness about them and make you want to curl up with hot chocolate and that make the world seem like a less ugly place.

I've read the Mitford series by Jan Karon and I've also enjoyed books authored by Miss Read.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Edited: I just re-read my post and it tells how I am reading The Great Deluge. Gee, I wonder why I need a cozy. lol

Really? Miss Read? Are her books good?? We have loads in the library where I work and they don't appeal to me at all. Tell me about them!

My cosy books are the first couple of Adrian Mole books (Secret Diary and Growing Pains) - they really make me laugh and remind me of when I first read them as a teenager myself.

The cosiest book for me though has to be The Summer Book by Tove Jansson. Just perfection.

Miss Read's books are very, very old....I'd even say they are dated. But I enjoyed them nonetheless. They usually circle around a small village in England and there might be an event of some sort or they just span a period of time (summer in the village or maybe a blizzard...etc.)

They tend to wisk you off into a place and time far removed from modern times and concerns and get you caught up in the new village school teacher not fitting in or why is the Vicar acting suspiciously......that sort of silly stuff.

They usually center on a main character or two. They are very thin and very light reads but sometimes you just need something like that.

Thanks for your recommendation. I'll add them to "the list."

My ultimate cozy book is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice...always makes me feel happy and contented. However, other ones I've enjoyed repeatedly when in such moods include:
Jane Austen's Persuasion
L M Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables,
E M Forster's A Room With a View
Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha

Well not sure if its cause hes my favorite author or not , but i always love reading any Edward Abbey makes me all happy inside:D . especially The Monkey Wrench Gang, love the humor in it and desert description and stuff they pull off.

That books sounds so darn familiar. :)

I also thought about the Anne of Green Gables series...also check out the movies with Megan Follows! More ideas:
Fannie Flagg- especially Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe or Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man
Billie Letts- especially the Honk and Holler Opening Soon and Where the Heart Is
JK Rowling- Harry Potter series
Michael Lee West, especially She Flew the Coop and Crazy Ladies
Lauren Groff- The Monsters of Templeton
Rebecca Wells- The Ya-Ya Sisterhood trilogy, especially the second in the series, the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood

Some of these are a bit heavy in some places, but all are worth it.

Wow, I was all ready to add some to this thread when I realized that nothing I read falls into this category. I'm taking notes.

That's the beauty of it, Dude. There is something for everyone.

Enjoy and yes, indeed, you will find you have all kinds of new avenues to pursue.

I just got done reading An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor. Really, really enjoyed it. It definitely makes you reach for the Earl Grey and crumpets.:)

A recently licensed doctor moves to a country village to learn the ropes from the current GP. Lots of charming characters and silly goings on.

There are more books in the series and I'm really looking forward to them.:flowers:

I haven't read it but friends suggest Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

I think I might give Miss Read a try next time I'm at work - sounds like the sort of book that should be read when it's rainy outside and you just want to curl up with a hot drink and a slice of cake.

That's exactly the kind of day for a Miss Read. And they are really fast reads so a rainy afternoon is all you need.

I'm going to add The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. A beautiful book even though it does have sad parts. And I'm so suggestible that all through this book I kept craving honey. I was eating honey on english muffins throughout, I probably gained more lbs.
