Cruelty

Heh, you never know. The deer may be having major problems...stress from the hunters coming after her....the kids playing up...husband left her for 10 other deer lol.
That would be classed as an accident though. Same as a driver running over a person.

LOL- :D I'm surprised we don't have universal health care for animals here in the states-yet more stupid things for our tax dollars to..............you get the idea. ;)

On another note-

Here's a good one for PETA members and cat lovers. :)

btw-before anyone gets bent out of shape, no cat was harmed in the production of this clip-it's a photo-chopped pic. :)

So if a deer wanders out in front of your vehicle that is blazing along at 80 mph, is it commiting suicide? Why aren't the animal rights activists upset at this? We need counseling for animals. :p
Bloody animal rights activists  They're more trouble than they are worth!

What are the advantages to society of the death penalty?
My comment was actually made 'tongue in cheek', I personally wouldn't like to see capital punishment brought back - however it did have its merits. You stole, you had you hand chopped off. You murdered, you were hanged. A penalty to fit the crime.

Obviously most cases aren't so clear cut (I remember working on the trial of Derek Bentley in English). However, nowadays the perceived 'punishment' is to sit in a cell watching televsion. The judicial system in this country is a farce.

I've heard worse. There was a proposal in one of the Northern Virginia Counties, I can't remember which, to run DNA tests on all the dogs and enter the information in database to make it possible to determine who was leaving their dogs droppings where it was deposited.

I don't know whether to laugh or shake my head in disgust. :D

The worst that happened where I live was that a senator brought home was federal money tied to global warming. A researcher hooked up cattle with computer devices to measure "methane emissions" from cattle to try and figure out if they had an impact on global warming. I swear I'm not making this up.

And they wonder why we don't like their "pay for everything" STUPID schemes. We have very low taxes here, which is why a lot of people move here to get away from the Socialist Republic of California. :D

I think I heard about that. Spending money on that when they can't even prove global warming. What they won't do to take money home.

A great read on what I mentioned in the previous post, along with other great examples of government ingenuity, check out How the Government Screws you from A to Z. Can't remember the author off of the top of my head, but it's an enlightening(if not enraging) read.

What kind of stuff does the author point out?

Ice, my comments weren't directed at you specifically, just general comments. I agree that jail is a farce. Something like 50% of black American males have been incarcerated at one time or another. What's wrong with that picture? Prison is a huge industry, supporting whole towns of screws and other prison employees. Towns fight over who will get the next big prison. It's ridiculous.

I have an idea. Put one incarcerated guy in a cage in every high school hallway so that kids can see up close how fun prison is.

I only remember a few examples off of the topic of my head. One had to do with appropriating a million dollars to make a New Jersey sewer treatment plant into a historical site. They also blew money on research to see if you could pu a hex on someone by marking an "X" on their chest. Yet another was something like $5 million to pave parking lots in Alaska of all places. I believe there was also a short write-up about how there are more employees in the dept. of agriculture than there are farmers. The other half dealt with some nasty govt. employees and how agencies had gone after people in an arrogant manner in relation to investigations, tax concerns, and that kind of thing.

Interesting, out hard earned tax money at work. I'll check it out next time I'm in the library. Of course we always have this kind of stuff as long as the president doesnt have line item veto.

Ahhhhhh, I just remembered the author's name-James Bovard. He's a libertarian, but interesting to read irregardless.

I have strayed from posting on this thread, but can't hold out any longer.

As far as animal cruelty goes, I can't see jail time for pulling off a parrot's head, or smacking a cat against a wall, or even spearing a dog (tied to a tree) repetitively with a bow and arrow (which happened in the U.S. not long ago); however, I can see psychological treatment. Throw those loonies in a padded cell for a couple months and get them help. Now, ripping a child's head off, smacking an infant against a wall, or even spearing a person (tied to a tree) repetitively with a bow and arrow (which has probably happened before)... that's a different story. Give those fuckers the death sentance.

And, speaking of the death sentence, I have always contemplated alternate methods of handling those deserving to die: instead of sticking them in jail for life, or shooting them up with fatal drugs, gassing them, or putting them against a firing range (which I think Utah is the only state still practicing this ritual), simply fly them over Nevada and toss them out; they’ll have the entire trip down to think over what they've done. And, for those criminals with lesser sentances, create a recycling plant in the middle of the desert and put them to work; if they tried to escape, they'd have a couple hundred miles of hot sand to walk over before finding freedom.

Just some thoughts...

I'd just as soon as see them spend the rest of their days making small rocks from big ones. Make a death sentance look like the easy way out.

Back on topic....

Animal cruelty huh? Define it.

How many hundreds of thousands of animals are systematically put to death everyday to feed humans? Chickens, cows, pigs, lambs, turkeys.....just because these are not "domesticated" makes a huge difference huh? Ever driven behind a truck loaded with live chickes on the way to a "processing" plant?

Mankind, for the most part, has issue's with all things cute. A "cute" (could read white here) child that goes missing gets huge, National press, while a "not-so-cute" (could read non-white) child slips into silent infinity ...a cute puppy, or a darling little Bambi raises the anger of people when found dead, but Pit-Bulls should all be banned from society? Sending a "stupid" cow down a narrow "hallway" to have a metal piston cave it's skull in, does not anger the masses, but a bowhunter dragging a whitetail deer out of the woods is cause for protest.

I think we can thank Walt Disney for people's aversion to hunting deer.
