David Brin: Woop! Woop!

Props to David Brin, particularly to his running series about the Uplift. I love the idea of dolphins and chimps brought to sentience and the aliens he devised for the Brightness Reef trilogy. Brin has such talent to run complex plots and characters through excellent scientific extrapolations. My favorite is probably The Uplift War but the whole series has been solid. I find his other novels a little more hit or miss affairs.

I've only read the first uplift trilogy. My favourite was Startide Rising with the renegade dolphins. I don't see what people have against Sundiver (yes it can get a bit technical but if you liked Ben Bova's stuff, Sindiver's an ideal intro to Brin). Uplift war was a little long but still an enjoyable read with a decent pace.

How do you feel the second trilogy fares when compared to the first?
