Dean Koontz

I've read at least a dozen of his titles and agree that some are very good, while some have much to be desired. Overall, his works are all good enough that I won't hesitate to by another title if I see one that catches my eye. The books that stand out in my mind as being his better works (that I've actually read) are Life Expectancy, By the Light of the Moon, and Velocity.

by the light of the moon was the only one i finished. it took all i had to finish it. "the sky was as black as darth vader's face mask" honestly. and the ending, was expected and really didn't end well enough for my liking.

I personally think that Koontz's works are either hit or miss. They can come off as very gory and unappealing to very well-written and suspenseful. I'm not sure whether others feel that way. Here is a list of books I read and liked or disliked.

Hit
Velocity
Mr. Murder
One Door Away from Heaven
Odd Thomas
Forever Odd
The Taking
Demon Seed
Dragon Tears

Miss
Life Expectancy (I'm phobic of clowns so it didn't do too good for me.)
The Eyes of Darkness (started good, ended bad)
From the Corner of his Eye (I couldn't get into this one.)
Strange Highways (huh???)

Also, if you have a fear of clowns Life Expectancy will double it. Not as scary as it was funny though. Good book.

NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!

I'm halfway through 'By the Light of the Moon' - it's going okay so far - it's only the second Dean Koontz book I have read - can anyone recommend another of his novels?
5 years back, I'd have quivered at the mere mention of Koontz's name, but now, I think he's losing it. Errr, or maybe its just me. Well, his best works are Lightening, Watchers, Twilight Eyes, Face of Fear and the Snow Series, to metion a bit. His worst works are Frankenstein, Odd Thomas, The Mask, Shattered, The Bad Place.... to also name a few... Christ! I was shocked when some of you folks said "Tick Tock" was okay? I ripped the book apart after reading it! It was worse than any of the horrible pot boilers poor authors like Baldacci could write. Well, to sum it all up, Koontz is a literary Legend, but he just didn't know when to let it go... or he feel asleep on the "top" which was just too bad for him.

I've only read a few of his books, but I've liked them, for the most part. I read Lightning and Winter Moon a few years ago; they were pretty good, from what I can remember. Last year, I read Velocity. I remember it being mostly good, but with a disappointing ending. I got the two Frankenstein books for Christmas, so I'll probably be reading them soon. I've thought about checking out the Odd Thomas series eventually, too.

Any Dean Koontz Readers

I also love to read Dean Koontz, anyone else out there that is a fan of his writing? Sorry if there is already a thread, I didn't see one.

There is a Koontz thread here, but it hasn't been updated for a while.

The only Koontz I have ever gotten through is Life Expectancy, which I quite enjoyed. Tried reading the one about aliens and weird rain several times but cannot get into it.

I read life expectancy also and enjoyed it...also read the one about the 'weird rain' and even though I struggled through parts of it, it wasn't too bad. I have several more of his on my shelf, but haven't gotten to them. I guess I have to be in the right mood to read his books.

Koontz

I can't name all the books I have read. Life Expectancy isn't even one of his better ones but I tend to enjoy most of them.

Any body read the Odd Thomas Series

I started book 3 this week. Like the name these books are very odd but I have enjoyed reading them.

I have most of his books, and am trying to get to them all. My favorite so far would be Lightning.

I just finished The Husband last night, and thought it was pretty good. There are no alien, paranormal, horror elements in it. It is just a good old fashioned thriller with some good unexpected twists. I would recommend it.

I also just recently read The Taking the weird rain one, and though it was okay, it is not one of his best, imho.

He isn't one of my favorites but I've still read a lot them. As many books as he churns out it kind of hard not to read at least a few. Watchers and Twilight Eyes are my favorites so far. The Odd Thomas books aren't bad but I'd rather he would finish up the Snow series instead of churning the Odd books out.

Amazing

After reading all the posts and the titles of his great books I was amazed to realize that I had read every single title mentioned in this thread:eek:

I've read many of his books, but my favourite so far has to be Lightning. What I found interesting was the afterword by the author. Dean Koontz was told this book was unpublishable. However, when he finally managed to get it published it became one of his biggest successes to date. The fact that Dean Koontz continues to write in mixed genre is what makes him one of my all time favourite authors

I've only read three of this books, and had started a fouth one before getting interrupted.

I LOVE Watchers and Door to December.
