Diary of a Psychopath

Hi, Steven! I've moved your post into the Book and Reader "Self-Promotion" area. Congratulations on completing your first novella! It definitely sounds interesting. I don't read a lot of thriller type stories, but may give it a try.

You also may want to post about your book in the Crime Fiction / Thriller / Mystery Writer section here: http://www.bookandreader.com/boards/mystery-writer-central.67/ It seems like your story would be perfect for the interests of people in that "Murder We Schmoozed" sub-forum.

Best wishes for much success!

So you are changing the forum rules about where authors may promote their books?

So you are changing the forum rules about where authors may promote their books?
In general, no. However, the "Murder We Schmoozed" group has their own sub-community that is specific to the genre. When they created the "Mystery Writer Central" sub-forum a few months ago, they created this sticky post for it: "Book and Reader has a Writer's Room and a Shameless Self-Promotion thread. If you're an author, you'll want to use them. But crime fiction writers are a breed of their own, and we would love to have you be part of our crime fiction community, both as readers and writers. This is the place for crime fiction writers and readers to interact." It is my understanding that they welcome promotion of genre-specific titles here, though I of course could be wrong.

Aah so there are two sets of rules in operation then. One for us and one for them. Fair.

Truthfully, I dislike any and all of the "promotion" threads. I see them as disruptive and a general PIA. So, whether it is one or two places, different rules are immaterial to me. I do see SRG's logic regarding the crime section for that genre.

The forum without such self-promotion threads are, IMO, far more conducive to Discussion of Books, and run much more smoothly.

Let me add this. If someone is a regular contributing member of the forum, it is a welcome thing to hear of their writing. But that is not the norm around here. It is the fly-by-nighters I really object to.

'Interact' is not the same as 'post an advert and disappear' which is primarily what the self promotion thread is for and once in a blue moon an author sticks around and does actually interact and in the meantime the thread acts as a repository for authors who 'hit and run', it keeps them from spamming the rest of the forum and acts a starting point so authors are not discouraged from the forum entirely.
