My signature only appears on new posts

How curious...

I would have thought that the addition of a signature in my profile would ripple throughout all previous posts.

But what I see is that the signature only appears on newer posts.

I would assume that if I alter my signature, then those posts which do display a signature will reflect the change. I am always curious about such minor details.

(And, Lo and Behold! A change in signature does reflect in all post that display the signature, and to activate signature display, one needs only to edit the post, and click on the box below which says Show your signature. Sorry if I am a slow learner in these matters.)

It is now Sunday Sept. 4, 2005 at 2:38 a.m. How curious! I just now
edited this post, and all I did was check the Show your
signature box, just to see if the hanging problem, which seems
peculiar to this one post, had disappeared. Well, the hourglass
appeared for about 60 seconds, and the machine said that the task
was not responding, but then suddenly, it snapped back to life and
successfully concluded the post. Definitely, there is something with
regard to this particular post and thread that is causing some
problem.

But, a minute later, after I had with difficulty, used EDIT to turn on the display of my signature in that post, I tried to add the above post, and it hung the browser (not the machine), and I had to kill the task in task monitor, and reload AOL (since I am using AOL and its browser, but I had the same problem at work, using Windows Internet Explorer).

I'm having problems trying to post in the Cold Mountain suckfest thread. I tried from home yesterday and from work today and got the same problem, so I know it's not my computer.

What's up with the forum?

As near I Peder and I could figure out, after much experimentation, is that there may be a bug in this vBulliten forum, when posting a post of some size which contains one or more bbcode quote tags. I was able to save things when I removed quote tags.

If you find that you can post ok to online-literature.com, which is also a vBulliten (gelsoft) board, then the issue is perhaps not with your computer or your Internet provider, but rather, something in the configuration or resources of this particular board.

Yesterday, I tried to make a new post, which had a quote tag, and it would not post, but hung my browser task. But, once I removed the quote tags, it posted ok. I would suggest avoiding quote tags for a while, and see how it goes.

It looks like there's a bug in vBulletin 3.0.8

They've released a new version

Version 3.0.9 remedies various problems identified in 3.0.8, in particular a problem with Internet Explorer freezing while posting a message, and an issue relating to the mailqueue failing to send digest email notifications.

I didn't see it myself as I use FireFox. I'll get this upgraded ASAP.
