Do you make yourself finish a bad book?

My father always tells me, "life is too short to read books that don't interest you".

A good piece of advice, I think.

If they are literature or books that are rumored to be really good, I finish them.

If they are just bad books, I toss them aside unfinished.

I was reading Dean Koontz's The Door to December and I've just decided that I'm going to stop. I finished half already, wow that was a waste of several hours of my life.

I'm not making myself stop, the book is. It's insanely cheesy, no offense to any fans. I just happen to find certain types personalities/dialogues corny, and this book happens to contain many of them.

Well, I used to do that. I used to make myself finish a book... but now I don't. And lately, I've had some I guess... reader's block... but every since I started my new book, I've very interested.

Considering I got a German Shepherd a couple months ago. :)

I usually don't read as much when I read a book I dislike. So that takes time away from books that I could be reading. Also, I work overnights and do most of my reading then. If the book doesn't hold my interest, I usually tend to fall asleep...so bad books just don't work.

If I don't like a book within the first few chapters, I skip to the middle and see if there is anything there that catches my interest.

If I'm not enjoying a book I won't finish it. There's more enjoyable books out there to spend my time with. Once I decide I don't want to read any more I put it aside or give it away and don't think about it again.
