Do you own an iPod?

I have a IPod nano and I really love it. Since I have lots of time during they day when I'm walking around from one place to another it's really nice to have. And I like ITunes a lot - the interface is one of the best I've seen.

I do use my MP3 player while out or at school or in the car. But if people in the background are too noisy, or some crusty poppish song is blaring loudly on the radio, I won't listen to it. I don't like turning the volume up too high and risk ear damage, and I know iPods have the same potential.

I don't find anything wrong with iPods. They are just a little too expensive for my budget, and I wouldn't have much opportunity to use it anyway, except maybe at the library or at home, as most other public places are too loud.

iPods are a rip-off - I was talking to the staff at my local electronic store, and they said that the iPod was the most unreliable mp3 player, as it breaks extremely easily.

Really? I've had mine for a year and a half and put it through hell but it still works like a charm.

*shrug* maybe they meant for the price that you pay. They just told me that heaps of people had come back with them broken, and that they break from basically one drop.

Edit: I see that you're reading Oryx and Crake - how are you finding it? I love that book :D

Well me and my dh bought our daughter one a year ago for her bday. I will NEVER buy another Apple Ipod or any Apple product again. Hers broke just a few months after purchasing it and what I had to go through (3 days on the phone with Apple) to get it fixed really bothered me. My daughter loves it but of course didnt have to fork over the money for it. Apple's customer service is horrible.

Who in the world would listen to 10,000+ different songs in a lifetime much less regularly?

You'd be surprised. I have gradually ended up with about 3,000 songs on mine and am nowhere near putting all my CDs on it. I listen to mine mostly in the car or in the gym, and it's nice to have the choice of pretty much any song you could want to listen to.

As for the name being horrible, steffee, unfortunately it's here to stay, as it's given part of itself to the word podcast, which is now the standard term for a downloadable broadcast irrespective of whether it's on an iPod or not. Now if the BBC will only release Jonathan Ross's radio show on podcast, my iPod's purpose will be complete...

Actually, I think iTunes is fantastic. It's easy to use, and very quick, and all the rest of it.

I have the creative zen. I received it as a Christmas present last year.

I also have a Creative Zen, but mine is a Micro. I love it-- and more so because it's not an ipod. I hate following the trends.

I have a 20 gig that I bought last year with my tax return. I want a bigger one. It's not so much that I'll be able to listen to like 10,000 songs it's the fact that if I'm away from home and I want to listen to something I can.

It was wonderful to have on my cruise because I didn't have to worry about packing cds. Everything I wanted to listen to was right there in my pocket.

I've dropped mine more times then I can count and it didn't break.
