Does Sex Sell?

Does anyone here think Sex Sells? I watch the Paris Hilton Hamburger commercial and it doesn’t really want me to buy a burger, but I do enjoy the commercial. Do I go to Carls Jr. No. Somethings work. I have taken a shot at a bar because the waitress was really good looking and dress to kill. Thanks to Franky Wedge (napstergirl.tv so very hot.) I now have a free trial to Napster Music. I guess I didn’t purchase anything, yet? Do I use Wesson Oil b/c of Mrs. Brady? I have said too much. What I did buy is the the T Mobile. Not so much b/c Miss Zeta Jones is hot, but it seem to fit my needs. And she is hot. Dam it. Needless to say this thing busted shortly after I bought it. Doh!
Is it selection? Sex continues to be the most popular marketing tool out there? Does that mean it truely works? Would people be buying products regardless?
 
Viagra, beer, fashion items, make up, grooming products, fitness products, etc. It's a pretty long list. Sex is pretty popular.
 
Viagra?? what's sexy about those commercials? I think sex is used more to sell products to men than to women. :rolleyes:

I don't know if they run this ad in other countries, but one guy asks the other why he's late for the game.

Guy smiles, and explains, his words censored by a little blue pill over his lips.

The jaw of everyone around him drops in shocked silence.

There's a couple of other pretty risque ones. One where the voice over says "The devil is back" while the V from Viagra is imposed behind the man's head, like devil horns, literally making him "horny." The attractive women beside him is smiling. I believe the government made them stop running that one.
 
Oh. One would think that when sex gets unpopular, it would be quite soon after that that nobody will buy anything.
So far it doesn't seem to be our immediate concern.
 
Sex will never become unpopular, I think. :p Does anyone really believe those Victoria's Secret commercials and ads are aimed at women??

In my experience, it's quite often not women who buy 'sexy' underwear and the like. It's the men who want them to wear the ghastly stuff.
 
One time, I asked my then-boyfriend if he'd like it if I bought some sexy lingerie and he said, "what for? It'll just come off!". He was one of the most sensible guys I've known! :D

No, women buy high heels because if they don't, the other women will look down on the one in sneakers. Women do it for social standing among other women. We know guys don't give a crap about shoes :rolleyes: :)

And, yes I think sex sells. I've seen it watching The Apprentice. And more and more commercials are trying to use sex to market to women. Ever see the Brawny commercial with the guy and the cake and the puppy? Personally I hated it but I could tell what they were going for.
 
That Brawny commercial is soooooo fake. The guy looked like he'd have liked to kill the puppy. Besides, that guy looks gay.

No kidding. I always though it was because high heels made your legs and butt look nicer.

I think it's a bit of both. Plus many women wear them for the height. Not a problem I have - in heels I'm taller than my boyfriend.

Some women just feel more attractive in heels, I think that's it. They do make your calves look better, but somewhere along the line many women get this perception that without heels they are less attractive. A shame really, because it's terrible for your feet to wear them every day.
