drunk and leaving a party

i think everybody should be responsible for themselves!! it is the same if you sue the tabacco firm, because you got cancer from there cigarettes, after you smoked for 20 years!! thats rediculous!!
i also think the poeple who give this party, should watch out, but it shouldn't be a law, it should be common sense!!
bye

So do I. The person chose to drink so much, then chose to get into his car and drive home. In my opinion, it is entirely that person's responsibility. The host is not responsible for what might happen when that person drives off, though I do think, like others have said, that the host should have used some common sense and made it clear that the guests will be staying overnight if they have been drinking. I think there is no defence for drink driving - if you have been drinking, or doing anything else that might impair your driving ability, you should not drive. I hate people who drink-drive. They hardly ever kill themselves, only other innocent people.

Things to do while driving, instead of being drunk:

Talk on phone
Apply mascara
Eat chili and fried chicken
Read the paper on the steering wheel
Smack down kids in back seat
Watch a movie on DVD player
Chain smoke
Look through CD collection
Apply nailpolish
Catch a mininap
Spill coffee on lap

I have witnessed all of these. The guy reading the paper was eating at the same time, for bonus points.

thats awsome!!
how about adding to the list, cleaning up, swearing, and head out the window?? oh and not to forget the, i call it, blow job!!

Someone told me yesterday that talking on the cell phone makes you just as bad a driver as someone over the legal alcohol limit. I'd like to see the study, but it's plausible. They tried to pass a law here to require earpieces while driving, but it didn't pass.

A law like that passed in NY, but now they know that having an earpiece doesn't improve the situation. They'll probably ban drivers talking on the phone altogether.

I heard a state trooper talking about this law. He said he wished he could ban eating while driving and also ban DVD and CD players. He said lots of accidents happen when inexperienced drivers (under 25) are looking for a CD, playing with the radio, or eating something.

It's illegal to use a mobile phone while driving here in England (good). Don't quote me on this, but I think people have been prosecuted for using their phones when stationary in traffic jams. There was also a big hoo-ha just recently over a woman who was prosecuted for eating a Kit-Kat (or was it an apple?) whilst driving.

I'm beginning to wonder whether CD players in cars should be banned. I've been out with my mum and her friend while the friend fiddles with the CD/volume/radio and swerves all over the place. I believe no end of accidents are caused like this. Why can't people just keep their eyes on the bloody road and concentrate on what they're doing?

i agree with the people here that say the legal responsibility lies with the driver and that the host has moral responsibility. i've lost many friends to drunk driving, and in all the situations someone else could be indirectly blamed. imagine the possibilities (as indicated in above posts). we need to start taking responsibility for ourselves BEFORE we go out for a night that will include alcohol.

however, as a hostess of a few big bashes, i always print up the local taxi and driving alternative phone numbers and tape them to a few conspicuous walls. and there are always people around who can provide a designated driver- but with all these i still expect my friends to take care of themselves, i'm just trying to be helpful.

Just to clear something up. I was playing devils advocate again. I don't think anybody should be held responcible except the driver. Can a sports store be held accountable for selling me a baseball bat that I then use to club a guy to death? No. Party holders should make the effort to keep people off the roads, but are not accountable for what the actual person decides to do. I just wanted to keep a good thing going, and nobody was taking the other side. So I did. It was fun, but not the way I actually felt.

i appeciate that you play devil's advocate, motokid. i notice you start quite a few threads that pose interesting social questions. when i ever get a chance to visit for longer than 30 mins i will get to putting my 2 cents into as many as i can.
