E-book Etiquette?

Depends on the e-reader one owns. We have Kindle Fires, and that in turn has our email and Amazon accounts on it. And the device ain't cheap.

Well as I have no intention of ever using those options on my read and I turn them off this isn't a problem for me :) but I can see that it could be for those of you that do use those options.

hmm my book cover is a lurid purple ... does that suggest something? :rofl

lol hmm maybe that you like purple or that you read interesting and exiting books? My book cover is bright pink (not my first choice)!

The other day there was a comment that some one doesn't like other people's sticking fingers all over their e-book, and this got me thinking about e-book etiquette.

With normal books it is quite acceptable to pick it up and look at the cover, read the blurb, and talk about what the person is reading, but with an e-book to pick up and switch it on and look it is different. Because the information is not just readily accessible it feels more invasive and less OK to do.

What do you think? Is there a new etiquette with e-books? How do you politely take a peek and see what the person is reading? And where is the line between OK and being nosy with some one else's device? Is this killing a conversation starter or does it just create a new conversation?

I would equate it with the same level of etiquette as your smart phone.

Speaking of which...

I have to agree with some of the posts here mentioning the type of device you are using as an e-reader. I use a Kobo Glo and the only thing on it are my ebooks. So honestly if someone was at my house and picked it up to see what I had on it or what I was reading I would not be bothered by it at all.
I do, however, read occasionally on my iPhone and iPad but I have a password on both so people can't just pick them up and look through it.
But, again, for my Kobo I really wouldn't mind someone looking through it all. To me its the same as looking through my bookshelves or checking out a book on my table.
