Eurovision Song Contest 2005 (Ukraine)

OK, after showing me that band, all is forgiven!

Fit, and they have the BESTEST band name ever! How can you go wrong with a name like "Vanilla Ninja"?????

I thank my pal who sent me the link back in December. :D

Martin, commiserations for the Netherlands not getting into the final. It's just not fun when your country can't get into the final to embarass itself. :D

To tell you the truth, I didn't know 'we' were even trying - only today I heard that 'we' lost in the qualification round last thursday.

I honestly believe that there is nothing on this planet I care less about than the Eurovision Songcontest.

'Cept for the tits. Goes without saying. Four pairs of 'em!

Cheers

It's so bad it has to be watched. In the UK we have a drunk Irishman doing a voiceover throughout the whole thing as he calls all the entries crap and makes sarcastic comments at every opportunity.

Now that I would enjoy - I seem to remember that us Dutch folk take it way too seriously. Seriousness spoils all the fun, I tell ya.

Cheers

Can someone enlighten me as to what the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 (Ukraine) is? Is it like American Idol, but with contestants representing countries?

You take people without any form of music talent and make them perform song that no one would ever want to listen to. First this is done in each european country so each has an opportunity to selected the very worst of them all to represent their country in the final. The final is held in the country that "won" the previous year.
The winner is chosen by each country giving points to the songs they find the most terrible.

There is currently a suggestion that the Eurovision Song Contest should be put on a list of known terrorist organizations.

Makes me glad to be in North America, then.

Although you guys seem to have found sufficient diversion with concentrating on tits instead of music, so it can't be ALL bad.

That about sums it up. :D

I have to go one year. :p

I haven't watched any of the more recent Eurovisions (not since you're allowed to sing in another language ans such), but I do enjoy some of the songs that came out of it.

Yeah, I know. *sigh*

Doesn't American Idol have shows like this where they show bad singers too? I was in a bar once and thought I heard a baby crying. I was pissed as babys don't belong in bars and I don't really care for them even when they aren't crying. Turns out it was the first episode of the new American Idol season. The bar staff felt like they needed to watch it so my friends and I left.

They actually have a special episode where they show the auditions of the worst contestants. They are completely tone deaf because they think they sound great!

I would like to explain ( to Americans/Canadians ) that it's not really like American Idol. It's not, as such, a TV show. It's more of a an event that is held every year. It's been going for a very long time now 20 or 30 years... not sure, but too damn long :D

Every time this show is on I wonder why they don't have songs that people would actually want to hear. Why not take artists that are big in their own country and let them battle it off... Then perhaps you would be able to watch it with combining it with some sort of drinking game.
