External Beauty vs Internal Beauty

umm... dare i say it sounds very sexist.. evolution or not. a woman is not just a baby machine for starters, and apart from sperm, which doesn't neccesarily mean there has to be a male present, is perfectly able to take care of herself and her offspring if she chooses to have them. we have come a long way since the cavemen.

Zen: You assume that sexism is immoral. What if - and stick with me here for argument's sake - sexism is moral? Or not even moral, just amoral?

And while we culturally may have come a long way from cavemen, our genes haven't caught up. Genetically, instinctively, we still behave like we did when we were 'cavemen'. Remember that this modernity we have is very new to us.

Zen, I feel as though I've inadvertently offended you.

To clear the air: I don't think women are nothing more than baby factories - not at all. And I do recognize that women have come along way in the past 100 years.

I'm speaking about how we are inclined to perceive sex based on our genes - which were forged over thousands of years of evolution - and our instincts which lag behind our culture by 2 or 3 thousand years.

Is it degrading to say women are only good for making babies? Well in truth its about as degrading as saying men are nothing more than sexually flippant, non-monogamous horndogs who can't keep it in their pants.

But you see it isn't offensive to anyone personally because I don't seek to single anyone out - but rather explain why people do what they do based on a general view of humanity over the course of its existence.

I don't mean to offend you, my friend; and if I have please tell me how and where you take issue with my argument. Perhaps I'll be able to explain it in a softer manner.

:lol: I tell my husband all the time that I only need him to fix things and kill bugs, and if I have to start doing either, his days are numbered. I can do EVERYTHING else for myself. ;)
 
Manly Reviews.. please.. i am not offended at all, i was just totally confused when you brought morality into this, and suggested i was assuming anything to do with it. and while i have not suggested men are anything like you have said, i suppose i did take exception at your seeming to suggest that women are merely baby machines. you would explain in a softer manner? why, cos i'm a woman? :sigh:

Kelstan.. i fix a lot of things myself, and kill my own bugs too. Mortein is my friend. :) but my husband is good at moving heavy things... lol.

editing to add: i can move a lot of heavy things on my own as well.

lol I brought morality into it because you said this sounded sexist, but framed it as a negative. If you frame it as a negative, you must believe it to be immoral - right? I have no views on the subject either way, just prodding discussion.

However, as far as my views on gender relations - they may not exemplify the best men and women have to offer, but they're hardly discriminatory.
 
Perhaps what we need in this thread is some of Wolf's 'insights' to set things straight! ;)

Heh, I just remembered in my country we've got the Child Support Agency so there is definitely a risk to the bank balance.

Shrek and I met over a sandwich counter, turns out he made the bread we used for our sandwiches. He kept hanging around every day when he got off work, pretty soon we were going home together. Took us four years to decide we wanted it to be permanent. We've been together for 31 years, married for 27. We still hold hands when we walk down the street. You can see by our names that we prefer the ogre aspect of our looks and personalities.
