Do you own and use the eyeQ (speed reading program)? If so please give it a review. I just purchased it via eBay at a great price and I wanted to know if it works as advertised. Thanks!

After opening this thread last year, I must say that my reading speed has increased naturally and without the help of SR programs/techniques. Back then I was upset by my SR rate; I felt ashamed. Now I read for quality and not quantity. I am not at all worried about how fast I read. I have matured as a reader during this year and look forward to better reading sessions in the future.

Reading is about experiencing the writer's words, and not about finishing a book in lightning speed. That's what I have learned most of all. And now I just love to read more than ever! ;)

Well said. I still sometimes get into thinking I need to finish a book fast so I can move on to the next one without really enjoying what I am reading.

Me too RAC42. Some habits are hard to break. I am getting better though...reading for quality is the best and only way to truly enjoy reading.

I think this depends upon the book. Some pulp novels are not written for the beauty of the language, so can be speed read for the plot alone, whereas other novelists deserve to be appreciated for their use of words, and these should be read at a pace which allows subvocalisation.

I'm using speed reading software to increase my reading speed which has become lazy over the past few years, but I recognise that the techniques aren't always appropriate.

I used to plow through any book I had in two days, but discovered that in retrospect when I tried to revidualize my favorite scenes from the story that it all seemed like some incomprehensible blur. I take weeks or perhaps even a month now(and of course I don't read as much as I used to, anywa) to finish a book, which is fine. I like looking back and remembering the terrain I crossed.

I bought eyeQ speed reading software a week ago. Lets see if I can increase my speed and comprehension. I have tons of reading to do but my slow speed has resulted in stacks of books that I want to read but cant get enough time.

Eyeq Review

I would be glad to review eyeq for you. First, some people on this thread do not understand what speed reading actually is. It is not skimming.
Here is an article that explains it better than I can

Oops, I cant link to the article, well just google for speed reader-x article and you can find it

I grabbed a torrent copy of eyeq. It was too expensive to buy it! I tried it for a couple of lessons and quit. It seemed OK but a lot of the exercises were clearly pointless and stuck in to make it bigger. I then bought the software from the above site wich was only $30 and I liked it much better than eyeq. It did not have any kids games included but did have some serious speed reading information that eyeq did not have. It is also a newer system.
They have a free online speed test too.

It was fun to find out and that sold me on the product. The two programs are very similar but the speed reader x is less expensive and is more for adults.

Wow! It's been a good, long while since I created this thread. If you truly want to read a good speed reading book, click here.

Words of wisdom. Nothing thwarts intimacy like the need for speed.

Speed reading has never been so easy and quick. Eye Q's speed reading program very powerful and proven to work. Many people everyday learn to at least double their reading speed. It makes everything in your life easier.

Why are you guys in such a rush to finish your books. You should sit back, relax and read them at your own pace. I would think that worrying about your speed would be distracting and take away from the joy of reading the novel.

I don't know about others, but for me, I wish to read non-fiction more quickly. It's unfortunate, but lots of non-fiction books are filled with crap and are not nearly as succinct as they should be. I'd much rather get through that 300 page book on a small topic area in 2 hours (then go back and read the important bits more carefully) than spend 8 or more hours reading it (not counting the time to take notes) to find out I've only learned a few concepts.

Speed Reader X rightly advises to vary your speed with what you're reading; for scientific textbooks, for example, you might want to slow down read each part carefully. For the aforementioned type of non-fiction books, you can safely read as quickly as you can. Novels, of course, as previously mentioned by others in this thread, generally should be read at a leisurely pace, unless it is pulp - in which case, speed reading also helps.

As for EyeQ, I generally loved the program given some trialling and enjoyed some great increases in speed. After giving it a break and falling back to previous speeds, I couldn't bring myself to face the tediousness of it and moved to Speed Reader X. Haven't looked back, since.

Errors, Errors in EyeQ Speed Reading Program

I got eyeQ speed reading program about a month ago. I did increase my reading speed moderately. What disappoints me is that there are lots of spelling errors in their condensed books. When I encounter a spelling error it slows me down because what I'm reading doesn't make sense, so I tend to go back.

Spelling errors in a speed reading program is unforgivable! At it's price, I expect this product to be spelling-perfect, at the very least.

My verdict on this one.... not worth your time and money.

I took some speed reading seminars back in college and still remember and use the techniques on occasion. By speed reading I can essentially triple my reading speed without losing much in the way of comprehension. But it isn't natural and is a deliberate action, so I never do it for recreational reading. The only time I use it is for work related reading or purely informational pieces of text.
