Mine are:
1. George RR Martin (nothing else to say that hasn't been said already)
2. Guy Gavriel Kay (If you're a fantasy fan, you owe it to yourself to read this)
3. Ursula Le Guin (one word: Earthsea.)
4. Neil Gaiman (Accomplished and skilful)
5. Oh, alright, it's Frank Herbert. (one word: Dune)
I'll say this bit about Robert Jordan - he was *brilliant* for the first 3 or 4 books. He really was. I still think the names of the Forsaken is still one of the coolest set of names anywhere. I'll agree that it got bloody tiring. I'm behind about 3 books, and not in hurry to complete my collection.
