Flag Burning

Do you feel that flag burning is an exercise in personal freedom or a desecration of our national flag?

What are your views on this hot topic?

Anyone that can get offended by a flag burning needs to find themselves a hobby.

Flag burning maybe.

When minority groups burn our flag and the indigenous population have to stand by watching this exercise in personal freedom take place and be told 'It's a flag. Get over it'. That’s when I want to rip their heads off.

While I think it's wrong to burn a national flag, I also think over-reacting is counter productive. The reason people burn flags is to gain attention for grievances they feel are not being heard. I'd rather they found other ways to be heard, but this one seems to work well.

There nothing wrong about burning the flag- in my view.

Either you are for free speech or you're not. Flag burning is free speech.

Over here, the ordnance (not law) actually states that once a flag gets too worn to display in public, it's supposed to be burned.

Most people just toss'em in the garbage, though, I think. It's just a flag, after all.

Hmm.. couldn't the same be said of book burning? I'm not for that either..I'd rather see all that anger and energy poured into the writing of books that better express the views of these folks.

Beergood: We have similar laws about proper disposal of retired flags..

Pretty much the same here. The Boy Scouts collect them and burn them in some kind of ceremony. I know people throw them out though. I've seen it.

As far as flag burning goes, I'm for it. It is a political statement protected by freedom of speech. I agree with the statement that you aren't "burning a flag, you are 'burning' what it stands for", and I think that most people who burn flags as part of a political protest would agree. It is a way to express displeasure with the government and its policies.

If some nutter or group of nutters in a foreign land want to burn a British flag then there is not much we can do, other than not give it to much news coverage.

If the person or persons setting fire to the flag are British subjects then I guess they have the right to protest.

If they are not British but are living in Britain then they should not have a right to burn a British flag on British soil. Anyone abusing our hospitality should be locked up or deported.

But it won't happen. We live in a PC world and any jonnie foreigner can come in and walk all over us.

Quite right. Bloody jungle bunnies coming over here and raping our bananas. It's about time someone played the white man.

If God didn't mean for people to burn flags he wouldn't have made them flammable.

A perfect example of political correctness Litany..........couldn't have given a better example myself............well done :p

Absolutely. How dare they come over here and burn our flags? They should be cowering in little mud huts while we bomb their villages and plunder their resources AND BURN THEIR HEATHEN FLAGS!

If they want the same rights as us to burn flags and bomb people they can damn well stop being born foreign.

Now you have gone right over the top, this is political correctness gone mad, it would be very funny if it was so serious.

Why don't we just give them the keys to the door on our way out. :(
