Hello everyone, I am bran new to this forum (I believe I have joined for exactly 1 minute now!).

I have read and re-read the Tin Drum various times now and find a very, very interesting but at times confusing. For school I have to come up with a Essay question and then answer this question for a chosen book(mine being Tin Drum).

So far I am thinking of maybe doing the question of "What is the turning point in the book", that being when Oskar chucks his drum into Mazereths grave and decides to start growing. However I am a little stuck on how I should go about answering this question, I feel it is not the best essay question at all but I really can't think of a better one.

People who have read the book please, if you wish, discuss what all about The Tin Drum here as it is a very strange and interesting book! Also anyone who has written or has ideas for a essay please give me some help :).

I am reading this now. I am enjoying it greatly, although it does require a careful, thoughtful read. It came to me highly recommended from a most trusted source of book recommendations. I am taking it very slowly and at the same time trying to reference the history of the place and period that the book discusses in order to better understand the imagery and the things described and alluded to.
I will be looking for discussion as I get closer to the end of the story. Might be a while though.....
 
Hmm. You say that the turning point is when Oskar chucks his drum into Mazereths grave and decides to start growing. Could be, but it seems like this occurs too much towards the end of the book for it to be a true turning point. Isn't it more likely that the turning point is when he decides to stop growing?
