Gabriel García Márquez: One Hundred Years of Solitude

"you" as in, do I want many friends?
Or
"you" as in the general population "you"?

I wasn't sure whether you were associating yourself with that thought or not, a (dumb) thought not calculated to lead to many friends.

I tried to read One Hundred Years of Solitude a number of years ago and did not get very far - though I have said on this forum that I generally finish what I start. I have felt like it was a failing of mine not to have finished it. So much so that I added a fine bound, leather copy of it to my collection - planning to finally read it at some point. AND though I just spoke against synopsis copies of books... I think I may try again with a copy of this book near by: One Hundred Years of Solitude Blooms Modern Critical Interpretations. The author is very well regarded and the book includes a careful character chronology.

I admit to being one of those who feel they "should" read this book - It did win a Nobel, after all... I don't know that it is a "bragging rights" issue but more of a personal failing if I don't eventually read this book.

One of my favorite books of all time. Not an easy read, but the pleasures are endless. (Minor spoiler) One of the scenes that still captivates me is when the first ice the village has ever seen is transported there.

I heard that this is an amazing, epic, story and also quite challenging to read. I read the short novel "Chronicle of A Death Foretold" and really enjoyed that, so I plan to tackle 100 years this year, it is number 8 in line on my TBR list.

nice reading. it's a hard one, but garcia marquez is a very subtle author, the names and the initial confusion is just for adding some layers about the real problems in the family of ursula. just try to read and think about the fundamentals problems described there

It's a good read. Stay with it: it gets more interesting as time progresses (revolutions, etc). You'll see that in a weird way it talks about every family and its relation to the rest of humanity.
